Rick and Patrick became friends in Grade 9 science class, where they shared a lab bench at the back of the room due to their alphabetically similar last names. In addition to sharing an interest in science (and occasionally performing unsanctioned experiments), they played in the school band and built sets for several school plays. Rick and Patrick both studied engineering at Queen’s University and were roommates by choice in first year. They apparently got along well because they chose to be housemates for the three following years, sharing a house with the three other engineers from their floor. Patrick was honoured to be a part of Rick’s 2008 wedding to Fallon, a friend of both since high school.

Todd is Patrick’s soon to be brother-in-law, and so unsurprisingly he met Patrick through Lauren. Todd attended the same high school where Lauren currently teaches and earned a degree in economics and geography from Bishop’s University in Quebec. In 2007, Patrick attended Todd’s convocation at Bishop’s and enjoyed a lovely weekend in the Eastern Townships with Todd, Lauren, and family. Patrick enjoys watching hockey with Todd either when out at a pub, or if he’s lucky, following a delicious meal courtesy of Todd’s parents. Patrick and Lauren are sure to invite Todd whenever they go out anywhere that has dancing, as his dance-off skills are greatly admired.

Alexander (Al or Alex to most friends) and Patrick met in September, 2001, where Al was to be found wandering the Halls of Victoria Hall (Vic 5D) at Queen’s University. In addition to successfully obtaining his Pilot’s Licence and expanding his education at Queen’s Pub, Al squeezed in a little time to study economics. Following graduation in 2005, Al and Patrick embarked on the world’s longest man-date, a five week self-directed tour across western and southern Europe. If you want to hear any crazy stories about Patrick, Al is probably one of the best people to ask. Although born and raised on Nova Scotia’s North Shore, Al has spent most of his time since graduation working or furthering his education in southern Ontario.

Greg and Patrick met in high-school. Like Patrick, Greg went on to study mechanical engineering, and although he attended McMaster University, he kept in close contact with Patrick during summers, Christmas breaks, and reading weeks. Patrick has many memories of camping trips with Greg, Rick, Fallon, and other friends, where Greg could always be counted on to keep the campfire going and the beer cold. Although Greg’s current employment is related to mechanical engineering, he has also been collaborating in the development of a new iPhone application, which he expects to release very soon.

Jean-Luc met Patrick the same day Al did, in Victoria Hall at Queen’s University. When in Kingston, Patrick frequently passed time at Jean-Luc’s house, where Al lived as well, either relaxing in the afternoon on the second floor balcony or watching hockey and drinking wine on a Saturday night. While at university, Jean-Luc studied philosophy, political science, and history, among other subjects. During exam downtime, Jean-Luc could always be counted on to grab a pint (or several) at the Queen’s Pub, where he was always much more proficient at pool than Patrick.
