Our Story

Boy Meets Girl...

and then they meet again

I was sitting in the Cafeteria (Ma Gibbs as known by the students of Pittsburg State University) that Friday night in January of 2001, trying to decide what I was going to do that night. The night before someone had gone through the parking lot and busted out the windows in several cars, and mine happened to get two windows broken out. Lucky me. So my car was in the shop, and it was going to be a few days for the glass to come in, so I was car-less for the weekend. A guy I knew, Miles, from the 4th floor, and one of his friends sat down and Miles had also gotten a window broken out of his truck. His friend, Chris, was lucky, and his car was missed. We ate dinner and discussed how terrible the damage was, and then of course what we were going to do that night. Chris mentioned that a few of his Brazilian friends were having a party in the apartments across the street from our dorm, Nation Hall. I finished eating was was getting ready to go, and Chris asked if I wanted to go to that party with him. I said I would think about it. He said that he was on the fourth floor, and that if I wanted to head up around 7:00p then we could go. I told him if I was coming I would be up there. I decided to go, and that was the first time we hung out. The Brazilians were a little crazy, dancing and singing and having a great time, but I felt out of place because I didn't know anyone, and I barley knew Chris. I left early and he walked me back to the dorms and asked for my phone number.

Over the next few weeks and months we began to meet for meals, walk to class together, and hung out a lot. Not long after the party, I had to go watch a movie to get extra credit for an English class, and Chris joined me. He held my hand in the movies, and I remember being so nervous and excited! After the movie, we went to a little diner and he ordered a fried baloney sandwich and I thought that was the grosses thing ever! Suddenly, we were always together, doing fun stuff and hanging with lots of friends. We dated for about three years, and then right before Chris graduated, we decided to take a break.

We kept in touch and occasionally had lunch together, or would send an email back and forth. Two years later, Chris was having some friends over for dinner and invited me and said some of our other college friends would be there and that they wanted to see me. I decided to go and got directions. When I got there, I was excited to see old friends and talk about good time we had. It was getting late, and I was getting ready to go, and Chris said that he wanted to show me his boat before I left. We walked out to the garage and he showed me Grandma Natty, and was explaining all the repairs they had done, and all the other plans they had. Then he said that he wanted to tell me something before I left. He said that the last two years, he had dated, nothing serious, but he realized that in all the girls he would date, he was always looking for me in them. He said that he missed me and the fun that we had, and that I was his best friend and if it was possible and if I was interested, he would like to date again. I told him that it would need to be a serious relationship, but that I really missed my best friend too. Once again, we were inseparable, and here we are today!
