How We Met/ Our First Date

Written by Kiera

Curtis and I met at a friends barbeque in the summer of 2006. I chatted him up about anime, since it was a common interest, and told him that I posted anime reviews on my blog (at the time). Despite insisting that Noir was a horrible anime (it really did waste my time *shakes her fist*), we made a connection. Over the next few months we mostly chatted online, and in early 2007 I attended Katsucon with Curtis and a few of his friends.

It was my first anime convention, and call me a nerd but I had a blast! I think that I knew I was falling in love with him when he and Mike (our Best Man) started enthusiastically singing along to the song "Bumblebee" by Bambee on the car ride down.

I was working in Delaware until May of 2007, so it was difficult for us to see much of each other, but we kept in touch online, playing Civilization IV and he occasionally came down to visit. I got a new job back in my hometown in PA and moved mid-May. We began dating June 22, 2007. Our first date was at my favorite restaurant at the time, The Melting Pot.

When we went back to his apartment that night, I found the whole place covered in lit tealights. (He had his mom sneak in while we were out and light them all-- thanks, Laurie!!). It was absolutely adorably romantic.

Loving Curtis has been the most easy and natural thing for me, and we became inseparable. Curtis is the sweetest and most caring man that I know, and that's what won me over. He's the best thing that's ever happened to me, and I consider myself blessed.

The Proposal

Written by Kiera

For our summer vacation we booked a week long stay at a condo in Myrtle Beach, SC (Avista Resorts). It was my first official long vacation of my working years, and despite the 10 hour trip down (the first few hours battling against Hurricane Hanna) it was exciting. We lounged on the beach several of the days, but amazingly only suffered a few small bouts of sunburn. Pictures of the whole trip can be found here:

Many nights we ate out for dinner, and on thursday we had chosen to go to a steak and seafood place that my parents, who have been to Myrtle Beach a lot, recommended, Landry's. Looking back, that would have been a token moment for him to propose in a nice restaurant over a bottle of wine, but I'm glad he took a chance on a unique proposal. After a wonderful dinner (the shrimp stingers were good but HOT!), we went back to the resort and as he put the cardkey in the lock, it wouldn't open. What the heck?

So we went downstairs, and I looked at some of the brochures in the hallway while he went over to sort things out with the front desk. They fixed things for us and we returned to our room. As I walked in the door, I saw rose petals scattered all over the floor, and that was my "oh snap!" moment when it began to dawn on me what was happening. I saw that the petals were scattered both up towards the bed and into the living room to our little dining table on top of which stood flowers and bucket with an iced bottle of wine. He told me to read the card, and I did, taking it out of the pronged holder from inside of the flowers and in the time it took me to unwrap it and read it's contents, "Will you marry me?", he had (like a ninja) sunk to one knee behind me and had the ring out.

I've always been worried that when it came to the moment where I was proposed to, that I wouldn't cry. Girls always cry at proposals, but I've never been much of a happy-crier. I had no difficulty that day. Oh yeah, and I said yes!

Our Story

(According to Sara)

On this dark, stormy night....Kiera lost control of her car and slipped off the road. Her car was stuck in the mud, and she was covered in it while desperately trying all she could to get her car back on the road. She was about to give up when just then, she saw headlights approaching. A man got out of the car and said:

"Hey Lady, need some help?"

She blushed and replied "Yes please, my car is stuck in all this guck and won't budge. I'm doomed."

The two of them worked together and finally got Kiera's car out and onto the street. She was so happy that she threw her arms around him, and even though she was wet and dirty, it didn't matter to Curtis. From that moment on, they were inseparable. They have lived through men living behind their couches, curling, crazy ex boyfriends, video game fights and many more. And on October 10, 2009 they will get their happily ever after.

Oh yeah, and they will name their first daughter after me. (Nice try, Sara!)
