This morning, around 10:30, Darren and I closed on our new house. We are so excited about the new addition to our lives that we are almost speechless. We can't wait to finally get settled in! The moving begins this evening and we hope to have everything in place so we can start our lives together in our new home after the wedding!

The invitations have finally been mailed! After hours of frustration, countless trips to the craft store and a handful of paper jams - they are finally complete.

I finally ordered my wedding dress last week! After doing hours of research, trying on dresses and reading reviews I purchased one! So excited! (Note: that is not the dress I purchased, but it is pretty rockin'.)

Our reception location has finally been reserved!!! After looking far and wide throughout the entire Outer Banks, Darren and I have finally chosen the perfect location to hold our post-wedding shin dig. We have selected a home within the Currituck Club community. It’s a beautiful 5 bedroom home with a spacious kitchen and living area, overlooking the Currituck Club Golf Course. There are two levels of outside decking, not including the pool area. We are going to utilize the large space to give our guest an ‘at home’ feeling and a relaxed way to enjoy the evening.

It is officially 100 days till our wedding!!! I’m so excited and stressed at the same time. I got a lot of things accomplished last week but there is still so much to do! I picked out the bridesmaid dress pattern, now I just need to locate the perfect fabric to make them. The next big items on my ‘to do list’ is to find my wedding dress and caterer for the reception.

As most of your know Darren is quite the musical genius and has been rockin’ since his long-haired, high school days. As of Sunday, he is the newest member of Thirteen20. They typically play cover songs but hope to work on some original material soon. They play everything from Poison to Led Zeppelin in the local club and bar scene. Darren is super excited about this new musical challenge looking forward to their first gig in February. If you would like to find out more about the band and upcoming shows, check out their webpage: http://www.myspace.com/thirteen20band

Darren and I have overcome the commercial-driven holidays to only escape only drained and exhausted. It was good to see both families and eat lots of delicious food till we almost popped. My parents bought me tires for my car. As a tradition in my household, we only purchase gifts for one another that are needed. They also gave me a folding card table with chairs. It has been quite handy for all the wedding crafts I’m currently working on. I sold my original crafting table (a bumper pool table sold for a nice sum of money) and was left without any where to work.
I’m off to the Outer Banks this weekend for a wedding show and to wrap up a lot of loose ends. I need to find a variety of vendors and set up the reception location. Tiffani is heading down with me, so I’m sure we are going to have a memorable adventure!

There are still quite a few of you who have not seen my engagement ring. I've had it since April and it still looks as perfect as the day it was given to me. Darren could not have picked out a better ring that matches my personality and style. It's so 'estate'...I love it!

This is a cool gadget!!! To prevent your hubby from forgeting the big wedding anniversary date. 24 hours before your anniversary the Remember Ring’s “hot spot” will heat up to 120º F for about ten seconds every hour! ALL. DAY. LONG.
I don't think Darren will be needing one of these since he pretty much suggested the wedding date.

On a typical Saturday morning you can find Darren and I driving through local communities looking for neon-colored, handwritten yard sale signs pointing us towards the direction of a bargain. We are your standard shoppers who are suckers who buying "orphan bargains" (items that are greatly reduced in price, but for which you have no special need). This leads up to holding an annual yard sale of our own.
On the dawn of our yard sale, which I have been thinking about most of the day, I can’t help but reminisce back about the first large purchase Darren and I made after we got engaged. We headed out pretty late on a warm April morning to catch yard sales as they were wrapping up. We were in the middle of Davidson County in a mixed county folk community (broken down cars in the yard, critters running free, grass taller than my knees…you get the idea), and we stopped at a home were they were starting to pack their non-sold goods back on to their car hauling trailer. The women were sitting under the large tree standing solitary in their huge yard, chatting and taking a smoke break. Darren eyed a camping chair and I eyed a Christmas tree. Yes, a 7½ foot Christmas tree, brand new in the box. The handwritten tag indicated a price of $25, but late in the day I figured I could negotiate that. We ultimately walked away with a brand new Christmas tree for $15. The tree originally sold for $79 because the price has not been removed. Darren and I did pretty well on our first large purchase as a couple…now we just can’t wait for Christmas to arrive so we can finally use it!

As I was browsing one of my favorite websites today, craftster.org, looking for new and exciting wedding items I came across the most remarkable and astounding craft in the world! It’s called Card-i-gama (www.cardigami.com) and it’s basically small greeting cards that use simple origami to create. They can be used as gift cards, gift bow & tag, ornaments, decorations, scrapbooking embellishments, plant stick/card, fridge magnet/card, etc. Why didn’t I come up with this idea, it’s so simple just yet so elegant.
I’m not a huge fan of buying craft kits to create an item, but after watching the quick one minute video on the website, I think I can create this myself. I have bookmarked the site on my computer as a possible wedding craft. There are so many ways I could incorporate this idea into the favors, invitations, table arrangements and other aspects. Can’t you see the little light bulb over my head? I believe you can see it gleaming super-bright today! I love it! I love it! I love it!

Our honeymoon is set! Woohoo! Darren and I going to Disneyworld! You have no idea how excited I am. Darren told me the only thing he wants is a Goofy hat. It’s going to rock.
A while back, Darren and I were hooked up with some flight vouchers after giving up our seats coming back from Vegas. During our whole trip we jokily laughed at the thought of getting vouchers to use towards our honeymoon. As we sat in the Dallas Airport, a soft spoken gentleman announced that two people were needed to give up their seats due to a weight issue. Darren and I took a quick glance at one another, darted towards the ticket counter without saying a word. We stuck with our game plan and received our vouchers. I can proudly say we are flying out of Raleigh to Orlando for FREE! We just received our leftover flight voucher amount of $70 in the mail yesterday. Yay!

After a wonderful weekend at the Outer Banks, Darren and I feel much more confident about planning a destination wedding. We have just been completely overwhelmed by everything that stands before us, from the tiniest details to the overall broad picture. We spoke with many locals during our trip and found that weddings are an everyday occurrence and nothing to fret about. People suggested caterers, rental companies, reception location, apparel stores, rings…you name it- we heard about it. It was nice to be referred by people of the area, since they deal with local businesses on an everyday basis.
I believe the most helpful person we spoke with during our entire trip was Susan, an information consultant at the local visitor center. She has directed quite a few weddings in her day and we able to suggest some wonderful ideas for our budget. She’s my type of woman - she planned her daughter’s wedding at skating ring in Virginia. Who would have ever thought of an idea like that??!! Just too awesome!
The next order of business is to organize the yard sale we will be holding in two weeks. Basically any money that we make will go into our wedding fund. We aren’t expecting to make much, but it will be nice to get rid of stuff we don’t need. Most couples these days have been established as individuals long before they get married, causing a duplicate of household goods. Darren and I fall in the same category. We have doubles of kitchenware, furniture, movies, electronics, rugs, bedding, etc. Not to mention I’m a huge packrat. I admit, I have essays and tests from college packed in boxes, clothes that I know I will never wear again and lots of whatnots, which I can’t seem to part with. The goal of our yard sale it to get rid of some our duplicate items and have fun doing it.

I can tell the graphic design nut is coming out in me. I did take a class a few summers ago in which all we did was study fonts, their history and their meaning to the world. I never thought all that jazz about serifs, san serifs and all eight million typefaces would get me anywhere in life. I guess I was proved wrong - once again.
I spend two hours yesterday searching for the perfect font for my STDs (Save the Date card, for you non-wedding lingo lovers). I came up empty handed, but I searched for 5 minutes today and it jumped off the page at me. It's called Architex 1.0. I never knew I could be in love with a font!!
