Alison and Jessica met their first week at Clemson when Jessica walked up to her and a couple friends at the FCA picnic. They found out they lived in the same building and quickly became friends and then roommates. They became known as the "giggle girls" due to their constant laughing whenever they were together. They grew closer over the years, sharing the ups and downs of life. Jessica was a bridesmaid in Alison's wedding, and is known for giving a toast at the reception that involved Alison kissing a frog! Even though she's a little nervous about what sort of revenge Alison could be planning, Jessica could not imagine getting married without Alison by her side. Alison is currently living in Fletcher, NC with her husband Bill and working as an elementary school teacher.
Kathleen and Jessica have been friends for ten years, since they met in their junior year at Starkville High School. They actually butted heads quite a bit at first, as physics lab partners. They had some mutual friends and began to hang out, but their friendship really grew toward the end of their senior year. They were practically inseparable that summer before Jessica moved away to attend Clemson, while Kathleen stayed at Mississippi State. Despite the distance, they talked all the time. (And this was before they even had cell phones!) They have not since lived in the same town, but have always made an effort to visit each other often. Years ago, it was decided that Kathleen would be Maid of Honor in Jessica's wedding someday, and she's not one to go back on her word. :) Kathleen will be graduating with her MBA from Texas A&M this December and beginning a new job with ConocoPhillips in Houston.
Jessica and Kendall met their sophomore year at Clemson when they ended up sharing a room on the Kappa Delta hall. Even though they were already "sisters," they never really knew each other their freshman year. Over many Greek social events, dining hall dinners, and late night conversations, they became good friends and remained so throughout college. After graduation, the two both ended up in Greensboro, North Carolina for graduate school (Jessica a year later than Kendall). Kendall likes to say that Jessica followed her there because she just couldn't live without her! Now Kendall is living in the D.C. area and working at the DAR museum. Kendall also recently got engaged, so Jessica is looking forward to sharing the joyous experience of wedding planning with her!
Heather and Jessica met when they both took jobs as elementary school counselors in the same district in August of 2008. They began their friendship as colleagues, supporting each other in their adjustment to starting new careers in a new city. They realized they lived less than five minutes apart and began hanging out, "debriefing" over dinner or ice cream after a long day's work. Heather became such a great friend that Jessica didn't know how she would make it in Columbia without her when Heather almost had to move away. Luckily, they are working together again this year, and Jessica feels honored to have Heather take part in this special day.
From the first time Jessica met Carmen, she has been incredibly friendly and welcoming. While they haven't spent much time together yet, Carmen has always made Jessica feel like a part of the family. Jessica is so excited to be gaining a sister-in-law and is looking forward to getting to know her more in the years to come! Carmen lives in Lenoir, NC where she works as a pharmacist and enjoys being a mom to her newly-adopted son, Zane.
Dave and Matt have been friends since Dave's sophomore year at Clemson, when Matt joined Tigeroar (the men's a cappella group at Clemson). Three years of Tigeroar antics will certainly give Matt ample opportunity to embarrass Dave during Matt's toast. Since college, Matt and Dave have had similar journeys in life. They both spent a few years in their hometown of Greenville before starting graduate school, and they also had first dates with their current fiances within a month of each other (both of them long distance relationships). Two years later, Matt and Dave are now both engaged to be married this summer. Dave is honored to have Matt as his Best Man and equally honored to return the favor at Matt's wedding in July.
Matt is currently attending the College of Charleston where he is pursuing a Master's degree in Public Administration/Arts Management, and hopes to eventually run the Peace Center for the Performing Arts in Greenville, SC.
Dave's father, Bruce, is also serving as Best Man. A wonderful father, he taught Dave to play baseball and other sports, and he helped Dave to begin learning to play guitar on his old guitar from college (which Dave unfortunately stepped on and broke!). Most importantly, over the years he has taught Dave through his example what it means to be a man after God's own heart and a good husband. While some shudder at the thought of "becoming their father," Dave has long considered this to be a worthy goal. It's an honor for Dave to call him father, and a joy to call him Best Man.
Bruce is a Senior Project Manager for Yeargin Potter-Shackelford Construction and lives in Greenville, SC, with Dave's mother, Sarah (also pictured).
Jeromie and Dave have known each other since college through their involvement with Dave's church, Downtown Community Fellowship (DCF). Dave first got to know Jeromie during their junior year in a house church (small group) at DCF. Whether they were grabbing lunch, carpooling to house church from Greenville, or rock climbing at Rocks and Ropes, Dave has always enjoyed having deep conversations about life and faith with Jeromie. They have seen each other through many stages of both, and Dave is honored to have Jeromie take part in our wedding for the beginning of yet another.
Jeromie and his wife, Liz, are currently attending seminary in Denver, Colorado.
Dave actually met Robert through his now wife, Natalie, who sang in the a cappella group Take Note, the female counterpart to Tigeroar. Robert, equally known to friends as Dewey, is a gifted musician himself, and both he and Natalie eventually served together in the church worship band with Dave. Robert is also a talented sound engineer, having recorded multiple projects with Dave and the DCF band over the past few years. He and Natalie are now living in Nashville, Tennessee, where Robert is following his dreams by apprenticing at a professional recording studio.
Dave and James knew each other at Clemson through involvement in campus choirs, but got to know each other better towards the end of college through their involvement at DCF. After college, James and his wife Laura moved to Denver, Colorado, and Dave actually first hung out with Jessica within weeks of visiting with them in Colorado. Laura had even been one of Jessica's roommates at Clemson, so it will be great to have us all together in June!
James and Laura recently relocated to Portland, Oregon, and we hope one day they'll move back East!
Dave met Monte on the same day as Dave's sister Carmen, on a church trip to Wyoming. Monte was a missionary in the Jackson Hole area at the time, and little did Dave know they would one day be brothers-in-law. Dave served as a groomsmen in Monte and Carmen's wedding in 2000, and Dave is honored Monte will be doing the same for him!
Monte works with Samaritan's Purse International Relief and lives in Lenoir, NC, with Carmen and their son Zane.
Ana is the daughter of Jessica's first cousin, Julie Thompson. She is four years old and attends preschool in Clarks Hill, Indiana.
Jacob, who is Jessica's brother, is a Sergeant in the Army National Guard and is currently on active duty in Iraq. Jacob will be returning to the U.S. this Spring and will continue his studies at Mississippi State University, where he is pursuing a degree in Kinesiology. Jacob also enjoys competing in mixed martial arts matches.
Michael and Dave have known each other for quite a while, though they got to know each other best while serving together in the DCF worship band. Michael and his wife, Amy, are incredibly generous individuals and even allowed Dave to stay in their guest room for a month during his transition to graduate school in 2008. Michael and Amy currently live in Washington, D.C. Michael and Amy are pictured here with the man who makes onions cry...
Jessica feels very blessed to be able to have her father walk her down the aisle on this special day. Joe lives in Starkville, Mississippi with his wife (mother of Jessica) Barbara and works as Assistant to the President at Mississippi State University. When he's not hard at work, he enjoys running, bird watching, smoking meat, and reading.
