David & Chiamaka

Our Story

How we met...

How we met...

Kenyan lad and Nigerian girl go to the same university and even take classes in the same building. Somehow the two never meet or interact while on campus. A couple of years later the two meet for the first time and find themselves drawn to each other.

This, in a nutshell, is our story- a story of love found in an unexpected place at an unexpected time. I think its fair to say that neither of us was searching for a spouse when we met at a club in downtown Raleigh North Carolina. We struck up an interesting conversation that seemed to stretch on and on- we didn't even make it to the dance floor that night! At the end of the night I asked for Chiamaka's number and she hesitantly gave it to me. This was the beginning of the pursuit...

He called me few weeks later and I did not return his call. I guess I wasn't sure how I felt about guys I met at night clubs! As fate would have it, I ran into one of David's friends at a pool party. His friend quickly called David to let him know I was there, and the next thing you know David showed up in five mintutes(he happened to live right around the corner). We started talking again, and our second conversation turned out to be just as engaging as the first one. That's when I knew that I was interested and that I would be returning his phone calls from that point forward!

It has been four wonderful years since that night on Glenwood Avenue...and our love has continued to grow ever since!

The Proposal

The Proposal

On the evening of November 21st, 2008, David and Chichi were following their normal Friday night routine, blockbuster and take out. For some reaon, David insisted on going out to dinner. In fact, he wanted to go to Chichi's favorite restaurant, Bonefish. Keep in mind, it was a cold winter night and Chichi was more than comfortable staying in. Nevertheless David managed to pursuade her and they went to Bonefish for what turned out to be a fabulous dinner.

After dinner, David pulled out the dessert menu. This was a bit unusual, because the couple tended to not get dessert after dinner. Chichi thought nothing of it, perhaps her boyfriend had a larger appetite than usual!

David excuses himself to 'use the restroom' and returns shortly thereafter. Chichi says to him, "Thank you for dinner, babe." He looks at her and says, "You can thank me by saying yes." She stares at him with a puzzled expression, as he digs into his jacket and pulls out a box. "I can't wait any longer..." he says as he moves around the table and gets down on bended knee.
"Will you marry me?"

Chichi stares at him in complete shock and for the next ten minutes all she does is repeatedly utter the phrase "Are you serious?" Of course, she finally said yes- after realizing that he was still down on bended knee with the entire restaurant watching! The rest is history!
