Bride's Story

My first memory of Del was way back in 2002. Together with a bunch of friends, we went to a comedy show in Adelaide. Prior to that, I had been introduced to him once, knew who he was and that was all.

I sat next to him before the show started and thought Id be friendly and talk to him as he was sitting alone and was looking a little grumpy. I asked him how his holidays went and if he got up to anything. His curt reply of "No, nothing interesting" made me retort with a "Cheh, you're so boring!" and I promptly stood up and swapped seats!

Groom's story

Anyone who's met Gillian knows it is hard not to like her, let alone love her. Yes yes yes...she thought i was boring back in the day, in fact i think i still bore her at times now!

We've too long a story for a mere 2-dimensional website to tell, so...if you can, let us know whether you'll be able to make it for our big day, and share life with us that way.

Our Engagement Story.

Our Engagement Story.

G:Del's proposal was so romantic!Even though we had been discussing marriage for a few months, I totally didnt expect it to happen earlier than we had planned!

Del: Probably my only regret is that i didn't get her a bigger brighter ring. Otherwise, regarding our engagement day, read on. I took ideas from a few places, eg. numerous 'wedding' movies, but in particular Ross's idea from Friends. But more than that, i thought long and hard about what we were really about as a couple...and stuck to a few foundations:
1. we have never been an extravagant couple, so i didn't want to do an 'expensive' proposal - going to a pricey restaurant, renting a boat, etc.
2. many small things make a grand big thing.
3. she likes lilies.
4. i wanted to do something that would touch and represent each and every aspect of her life where possible.

From day 1 to the 2nd September, it took plus-minus 4 months to pull together? Yea...i'm pretty proud of it. Heh - just wait for the wedding day itself!

G: We had made an appointment to have dinner with our youth pastor that night. Unbeknownst to me, Del had postponed the appointment! So when I was home, waiting for him to pick me up, my housemate Su-ling handed me an envelope. In it was a handwritten note, a blindfold and $10. The note (from Del) instructed me to put on the blindfold and follow Su-ling to her car. She would be driving instead! Of course, at this point, I was slightly suspicious! The $10 was for dinner along the way!

Eventually, we got to our destination (after many false turns by Su-ling so that I wouldnt guess where we were and me feeling nauseous!) and when I took of my blindfold, Del was there and handed me a stalk of pink lilies. We were at the Planetarium! It was one of the places we had visited early on in our courtship!'How exciting!' I thought - 'another star-gazing session!'

When we got to the main projector room (which Del had booked and decorated with rose petals and lilies!) Martin, the guy-in-charge proceeded to give us a 20min information session, complete with that night's stars projected on the ceiling. He spoke of Venus and Mars, and romance in the sky. Of course, by this time, I had a fairly good idea of what was coming up and I could barely keep my heart from jumping out of my chest!

After the 20min session, Martin left the room and Del led me to a small table at the end of the room. On it was placed 4 boxes which I had to open in order. There was symbolism behind each one.

Box #1 - our bibles : he said that everything starts and ends with God and recognises that we are together only because of God. He reiterated that God should always be the focus in our relationship and etc.

Box #2- Lego building blocks + 2 Lego figurines : he said that he acknowledges that our family have been our building blocks, making us who we are today etc...and that he would want to build a home with me! (*at this point, i was beginning to tear!)

Box #3- My stethoscope + medical handbook that I carry around when Im in the wards : he said that he acknowledges that God has called me to this vocation and will support me all the way.

Box#4 - I couldnt open this one until he had given me something else....... and this was when he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!
Of course I said yes... and only after that, did he give me the last gift, a pink baby-T with diamantes on it which said 'Bride-to-be'....

I thought it was to be the end of it all, but no....he then led me back to the chairs so we could watch the projector. He had made a powerpoint detailing his own journey of planning for the proposal and all the men in his life who had challenged and inspired him. He also included pics from my close gf's from back home and what they had to say. And at the end of it all, there was a video from my family with their well-wishes and also from my gf's! By now, I was crying shamelessly!

Coming home, there was another surprise waiting for me - in my room, my housemates had decorated it with tealights, helium balloons and my entire study desk was covered with presents and bouquets of flowers from Del's family! Del's last gift was also included - an outdoor photoshoot with a photographer!

Needless to say, it was a very emotionally draining time for the both of us..and we were both in bed (separately!) by 1130pm!
