The Proposal Story

Our proposal story actually requires a little bit of backstory. On our first real date, I accidently stood Dewey up. School was starting again, I was exhausted, and I fell asleep while waiting to leave to meet him at Logan's Roadhouse for dinner. On top of that, my cell phone wasn't working right and it was turned off (apparently, you shouldn't repeatedly drop them on the floor). So, once I woke up, realized what I had done and managed to get him on the phone, he agreed to drive all the way across town for the second time that night to meet me.

Fast forward to February. He and I had picked out a ring and I knew that he was working on paying for it with cash (we are having a debt-free wedding). On the 13th, he commented that he wished he could get the ring faster and I told him not to worry about it. "It's just a thing," I said. We had already made that commitment to one another, the ring was just a formality. Then I took a nap. Because I seem to do that on very important days in our relationship.

When I woke up, the house was quiet. I wasn't sure what time it was, and just as I was adjusting to being awake, the phone rang. It was Dewey. He told me his truck had broken down, and could I come get him? At Logan's Roadhouse? My heart broke for him, since I knew he was already upset about not having my ring yet, and getting his truck fixed would put him further behind.

I wasn't really awake yet, but luckily decided to change out of my sweatpants and to leave Margaret at home. When I got there, he was standing outside the restaurant on his cell phone- it sort of sounded like he was talking to Roadside Assistance. I had looked around for his truck, but didn't see it. I asked him, "Where's your truck?" and he turned away from me (weird), turned back around, dropped to one knee and pulled out the ring and asked me to marry him.

I called him an unkind name. Then I hit him on the shoulder. I had been so worried about him! Then I said, "YES!" of course! Then we had dinner at Logan's, telling everyone we had just gotten engaged and showing off my ring.

Now I refer to Logan's Roadhouse as "The Most Romantic Restaurant in Tampa."
