Once upon a time...
Doug and I met our junior year of high school through a mutual friend. We hit it off instantly. After much high school drama, breaking each others hearts, and growing up a lot, we decided that if we were ever going to get anywhere we had to decide if we were in it for the long haul or not. After much thought, prayer and guidance from God, we decided that this is it and started treating each other the way we deserved. Two years later, we're finally engaged and planning our September wedding! He is so much of my daily support, my source for laughter after a hard day, and the person I go to for rest. As soon to be Mrs. Doug Doan, I couldn't ask for more...
Doug and I were on our way to Cincinnati, OH for one of our many trips to see the Reds play ball. Doug and I had talked the previous week about how he wanted to propose after the game, but because he hadn't gotten the ring, his idea was shot down. Even though we had talked about it on the way there, I was still convinced that it wasn't going to happen that evening.
We got to Cinci almost an hour before the game. The games we've attended in the past, we've barely made it in enough time to get some drink and make it to our seats...so I was excited to finally get to see some of the city. Because the Great American Ball Park sits right next to the Ohio River, Doug mentioned that he'd always wanted to see the river, and maybe walk by it. I eagerly obliged, wanting to explore some new territory.
We walked a couple of blocks, and to his dismay, there were concrete walls keeping passerbys from walking right up next to the river. But the bridge that crosses the river is gorgeous. I kept mentioning how pretty I thought it was...so he asked if I wanted to go on the top and look at the river from there. So, we found the stairs that lead to the top...and off we went.
After we go up to the top, I was laughing at a couple of ducks who kept sticking their butts in the air while getting food, not realizing what was about to happen. Doug began asking me if I was upset that he wasn't going to propose that day...and then it hit me. Oh my gosh, it's coming... For some reason I got nervous. And then he got down on one knee...and I can't remember anything he said because it's all a blur from there...I don't even know if I said yes. All I remember is him saying, "So, is that a yes..." And there ya have it. That's how the newly official "Soon to be" happened!
