The tea ceremony is an integral part of Chinese weddings. It symbolizes the blessing of the elders and the acceptance of the bride into the groom’s family. The couple will visit the groom’s house first to present serve tea to his elders. The ceremony is then repeated at the bride’s home.
Saturday, November 24, 2007 | 12noon

Traditionally the bride’s home visit is three days after the chinese wedding ceremony. For efficiency, modern chinese wedding usually compressed all the necessary events into a single day.
For hokkiens, combinations of popped rice blocks, or popped rice and sesame rolls, peanut chewy candies, bean paste cookies (米方麻佬贡糖豆沙饼) “ mi fang, ma lao, gong tang, dou sa bing” are usually requested.

Hilltop Garden (Civic Service Club)

No 91, Bt Batok West Ave 2
We have confirmed the banquet to be held at Hilltop Garden @ Civic Service Club on 24th Nov 2007. We chose the Hilltop Garden because it is the most ideal place as the location, it is a brand new club has charming appeals and the interior is something that we really have to work on
Anyway, we have worked out a humble guest list and much as we would love to, it is with sincere regrets that we are unable to invite each and everyone of our friends due to our limited budget. Nonetheless, I hope you guys would understand
Our Wedding Banquet will not be a formal affair but a simple one due to our budget. It will be held at the Civic Service Club @ Hilltop Garden. However, we still seek your cooperation to help make our wedding as grand and as graceful as possible.
Some basic social banquet etiquettes:
Dress code:
We don’t expect our guests to burn a hole in their pockets just to arrive in Hugo Boss suits or Prada dresses. But, the least we would expect our guests to arrive in, would be a suit-and-tie for gentlemen and a dress/gown for ladies. Alternatively, you may come in your traditional cultural dresses like Batik (for men) & Sarong Kebayas (for ladies), China-suits (for men) & Cheong-sam (for ladies), Dhoti (for men) & Saris (for ladies), or even Military Ceremonial Dress (if allowed)… Anything that would make this occasion colourful and grand. The last thing we want to do is to make any guest feel out of place by looking UNDER DRESSED. So please dress appropriately for this occasion.
Punctuality:
While we know that it is habitual for guests of weddings to arrive late for wedding dinners. However, it is in fact a display of sheer disrespect and ill-regards for the host & their other guests. We are hoping that this would not happen on our wedding day. There is long list of entertaining events that our friends and us had painstakingly lined up for you for that evening. And honestly, we won’t want you to miss any part of it... So, please be punctual.

2) 红烧金菇蟹肉生翅 - Braised shark's fin with crab meat (Soup usually follows the appetizers. The type of soup has some significance, for example, shark’s fin soup indicates wealth because this delicacy is very expensive)
3) 脆皮烧鸡 - Roasted crispy chicken (Chicken symbolizing a good marriage and the coming together of families , serves to represent hopes for a good marriage and the union of two families. When served whole, the chicken emphasizes the ideal of family unity)
4) 香酥麦片虾 - Fried prawns with cereal (Red is the color for happiness, so serving prawns would signify joy and celebration).
5) 蒸金目鲈 - Steamed live sea bass with chef sauce (Serving fish would hope that the couple will experience a life together with abundance because “fish” sounds like “plentiful of wealth” in Chinese).
The Chinese word for fish is yu and it is similar in sound to the words meaning `abudance’ and `surplus’. So serving whole fish at the wedding banquet is believed to ensure that the couple will not lack for anything in the coming year.
6) 金丝芋泥脆圈 - Yam ring with meat & assortment.
7) 鲍鱼扒波菜 - Braised abalone with spinach.
8) 幸福富贵面 - Braised ee fu noodle (Noodles served at the end would symbolize longevity because noodles come in long strands).
9) 百年好合 - Red bean paste with glutinous rice ball (Serving dessert probably wishes the newlyweds a sweet life. The sweet red bean paste in tanyuan with crushed peanuts symbolizes fertility).
FREE FLOW of red wine, hard liquor, beer, stout, chinese tea and soft drinks for all guests.
