Phil and Emily

Our Story

Everyone loves a good story... and we have a few!

How we met...

her version:

How we met was actually nothing spectacular... it was a low-key house party that Tabitha were invited to. We didn't know anyone except for the person who invited us, and when we arrived we found a bunch of kids watching bad TV on a big-screen. We almost turned around and left, but decided to at least make it to the booze and give the party a shot. In the basement we played cards all night with a bunch of really nice guys. Within the first 5 minutes some guy hammered a nail into his nose (great first impression, Phil)!!

Tab and I started hanging out with that group, and one day she got a call from Phil asking if I was seeing anyone... he invited me to play pool and showed up with a rose... I didn't even realize it was going to be a date! We went to play pool, hung out at a diner for hours, and were inseparable from that day on!!!

How we met...

his version:

I was dragged out of the house by a couple friends of mine to go to a party. I'd generally describe the party as "awkward" and "kind of painful." Those of us who were legal stayed in the basement, ceding the upstairs to a bunch of high school boys. I think I was 22.

Then Emily and Tabitha arrived, parting the pimply faced masses like a ray of sunshine. The evening really perked up from there. I remember Emily getting call after call from a fool frat boy that hadn't taken the hint. I got to spend some time convincing him that Emily wasn't interested. I think I sang to him.

The courtship that followed had its clumsy moments: passing messages through friends, spending long periods kissing... in the dark... in the cold... outside... Emily and I realized that we had a good thing going. As Emily put it, we've been inseparable ever since!

The Engagement!

Phil had been telling me that he had something for us to do on a Saturday, and when that morning arrived, he woke me up telling me that we were going to be late. When I was finally ready to leave, I realized that he was still in pajamas. He told me that I was going on the surprise alone!

He handed me a card that said I was gong on a scavenger hunt and the first clue was at a florist. When I arrived, the florist had a dozen purple roses and another card that told me to go to PF Chang's and ask for Curt.

When I got to PF Chang's and found Curt, the bar manager, he got me lunch, a drink and another card that told me to go to Victoria Secret. I headed to Vickie's and the manager was there with another card and a gift card for a little shopping. The card I received there told me to go to a coffee shop and ask for Jessica.

I tried asking for Jessica at the coffee shop, but realized the Jessica he was referring to was one of my best friends he had enlisted for help. We got a latte and she took me to the next stop, which was the Botanical Gardens and the Orchid Show.

Even better, another of my best friends, Lori (who is also my Maid of Honor) was waiting for us! After we all went to the Orchid Show, I was told to return home, where I found Phil cooking an elaborate dinner in a suit (which he had secretly gotten tailored).

After one of the most amazing meals I had ever had, Phil proposed to me in our apartment... Of course I said yes immediately!!
