Here's what we're up to these days!
The last time many of you have probably seen Emily was her graduation party in 2005... although I have been fortunate enough to see many of you somewhere in between that time.
Well, since I graduated, I've attended two different colleges: Normandale and Minneapolis Community and Technical College. My third college I am starting only ten days before the wedding: St Kates. St Kates has been my dream school and I am really excited to finally have the chance to go there. (And with a FULL RIDE my first year! YAY!) My major is Social Work, and it probably won't be changing ever again. I plan on earning my Bachelor's, and immediately beginning the MSW program.
I've held many a job putting myself through school. First off, I work for a non-profit Eastside Neighborhood Services. I work in a public housing development in Southeast Minneapolis (about a one minute drive from the church we are getting married in). I am the assistant in an after school program ESNS runs and I really enjoy working with the immigrant and low-income populations that live there. We do a lot of remedial academic work because many of our students are ESL, but we also do character development, enriching activities, service learning, and field trips.
Since that is a seasonal school year job, in the summers I work for the YMCA of St. Paul in their day camp program.
Ryan and I are also caretakers at our apartment building, which can be a lot of work but the free rent is worth it!
Other than that, I enjoy reading, writing, concerts, art shows, theater, the circus, cooking, camping, playing piano, and being outside. We also got our first cat together, whose name is Tillie, so it's been fun getting to know her as well!
What am I up to these days? Well here in the Summer I am currently working for Cirque Du Soleil and also as a caretaker with Emily at the apartment that we live in. Can you guess which job is more fun? From Fall to Spring however I teach K-5th grade general music. I also direct a choir there as well! I try to keep my occupations fun and enjoyable as you can see!
For those who don't know/remember, I graduated in 2006 from Mankato in Music education. A masters in education will hopefully get started once I am tenured :) Right before graduating, I met Emily at Camp Bovey where we became good friends, but not lovers just yet! After the Summer camp sessions were over and we had already seen the best and worst of each other, we knew that it would be just fine to go ahead and start dating/fall in love/wanna get married.
In addition to the wedding, we have already taken steps to build a family as we raise our daughter, Tillie. Tillie is a beautiful little feline who is always a great joy to have in our home. Well, that's what's been going on lately. We'll catch up on more when we see you at the wedding!
