This week, I met a girl, on a plane, who happened to be reading a bridal magazine and wearing a very, very sparkly ring. Now, sometimes I’m really good at math and sometimes I’m really terrible at it, but on this particular day I was able to put two and two together and come up with the fact that she was very recently engaged.

Insert opportunity to jump up and down with excitement here.

There was obviously no way I could let this moment pass (the hopeless romantic that lives inside of me was already shocked that I waited more than fifteen seconds to say something), so I told her how much I loved her ring and ended up asking for the story behind it.

Guys. She was just coming back from Europe where her fiancé had proposed, in the middle of a three-week trip, at Neuschwanstein Castle. No, I cannot pronounce that either. But that, my friends, is the castle (on a mountain, in Germany) that inspired Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland. Let’s just say that it’s literally a fairy-tale setting and call it good.

I keep hearing (and over-hearing) engagement stories lately. Some have been simple, some have been elaborate (hello, ancient German castles!), some have been recent and some come from couples who have been married for years. But all have concluded with the same chapter: two incredibly happy people planning the rest of their lives together.

If you’re reading this blog, I’m going to guess that you’re engaged. Or talking about getting engaged. Or, of course, maybe you’re like me and you just love weddings. But odds are, somewhere along the line all of us have an engagement to story to share – whether it happened yesterday or seven years ago or is still a hopeful future. I love mine, and even though it didn’t happen at Neuschwanstein Castle, I wouldn’t change a second of it. What’s yours?
