Justin and I met on e-Harmony. We sent a few messages back and forth before he gave me his number and we set up our first date. We went to a wonderful steakhouse then out for some drinks downtown afterwards where we shared our first kiss!
We started dating in January 2008 and shortly after I knew he was something special. It was the little things he did and the way I felt when we were together that made me realize that we were meant to be together forever. We started talking about the future and looking at rings. I quickly realized how picky I was! No solitaire or antique-ness for this girl-I liked side stones but didn’t know how I wanted them incorporated. After looking at a few jewelry places, Justin had somewhat of an idea of what I liked and didn’t like. I thought we were still looking at rings (turns out he already bought one!)
My parents gave us a trip to NYC for the weekend after Christmas. I was told after the trip that there were many times throughout the weekend that he was planning on asking—each one was ruined one way or the other. First, Empire State Building—raining/snowing and gross! Second, Toys R Us Ferris Wheel—I didn’t want to wait in line with 100 screaming kids. Third, a carriage ride through Central Park—I didn’t want to spend $40 for a 20 min ride and I had read in a tourist guide that it was a cruel thing to do to the horses. Then, the secret almost was revealed going into a museum. Justin went through the security (with the ring in his pocket) and the security guard used a wand on him and insisted something was in his pocket. I was like “Just give him whatever is in your pocket” Justin tucked the ring under his thumb and showed the security guard and he finally let us in! The weekend was over—no proposal (thanks to me ruining many good moments—oops!)
The question finally got asked on New Year’s Eve. It was the first thing we did in 2009! What a GREAT way to start off the New Year! I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect moment—it was very special. We had a bunch of friends over and as the ball dropped Justin started telling me how much he has enjoyed the last year with me and how he couldn’t see another year without me then got on one knee and asked me THE question! I said YES and couldn’t stop jumping up and down!
