How We Met

How We Met

During the 2002-2003 school year, Olga was completing a year of volunteer service at Amor en Accion. Erik was completing his senior year at St. John Vianney College Seminary. Olga and Erik met during preparations for a mission trip to Haiti sponsored by Amor en Accion. The purpose of the trip was to expose the seminarians to the educational, nutritional and other support work that Amor en Accion does in Haiti.

While in Haiti, Olga and Erik began to get to know each other. As they shared their life stories, they began to realize how much they had in common. The friendship continued to grow and develop when they returned to Miami. After Erik's graduation, they discovered that they were falling in love and started their romantic journey.

The Engagement

The Engagement

Olga and Erik spent the summer of 2005 working in Miami. Throughout the summer Olga kept mentioning how much she wanted to spend a day out on a boat. Meanwhile, Erik had decided the end of the summer would be the perfect time to propose. About three weeks before the proposal, Erik had lunch with Olga's parents and asked them for her hand in marriage. He then revealed his special plan to them...

With the assistance of the entire Suarez clan and significant others, Erik pulled off the ultimate engagement surprise.

One day Erik casually mentioned to Olga that they should finally take that boat trip on their last weekend in Miami. When the day arrived, Olga was surprised to find that Erik had chartered a 41-foot catamaran for just the two of them and a captain. They sailed around the bay in Miami for about 4 hours just enjoying the lovely weather and each other's company. As the boat headed towards the dock it suddenly stopped in the middle of the bay. All of a sudden the captain lowered the dingy from the back of the boat and told Erik and Olga to get in. Before she knew it, Olga was arriving at the Agrupacion, where Erik was living that summer. Olga's family had prepared a path laden with roses and a bottle of chilled champagne. That's where Erik proposed and Olga happily accepted!

It wasn't over yet! To Olga's surprise, when they got to Olga's house, they were met by an anxiously awaiting group of family and friends.
