Once upon a time there was a man who drank Shirley Temples and a girl who drank beer. Ironically enough, their drinks of choice did not match their personalities. The man who drank Shirley Temples was big and burly, rough and rugged. The girl who drank beer was small and petite, and very prissy. As luck would have it, their paths crossed one day at a local watering hole.
This is the story of their love...
Mario and I met on October 7th, 2006 (my best friend's birthday!). It was the night of my high school class reunion. I remember that morning I contemplated going to the reunion, and was finally convinced by my friend Phil to go (thanks Phil!). I went to the reunion, and later on that night some friends and I decided to go to a local lounge/bar. Little did I know that I would meet the man of dreams in that very place!
As soon as I got there, I noticed Mario by the bar (who does not even drink, by the way-lol). I noticed him not only because he was handsome, but he was the tallest guy there-and of course, the most handsome! We were introduced by a mutual friend, and connected instantly. Instead of reconnecting with my high school friends, I spent the rest of the night talking with Mario.
For our first date we met at Starbucks. I knew right then and there that he had stolen my heart. Not only did he take me to one of my most favorite places in the world, but we sat there and talked about everything under the sun. I felt like we had known each other for years.
On our next date, he introduced me to his surfboard "Niecy". THEN I knew it was serious! We became inseparable from that day on. He was always surprising me with little thoughtful things like Starbuck's gift cards, and shirts from my favorite boutique. We spent our evenings walking around galleries downtown and weekends at the beach.
Mario and I had talked about marriage, and I knew that he was thinking about proposing. To my surprise, he had gone to my favorite jewelry store and picked out a ring! Instead of a traditional surprise proposal, he called me one afternoon and said, "I bought you a ring. I'm coming over right now!" He drove over to my office, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him! But before he could put the ring on my finger, he got down on one knee and asked for my Mom's approval. She said yes, and he put the ring on my finger.
From day 1, Mario and I have always a connection and a large amount of respect for one another. We took the time to talk to one another and listen to the other person's needs and concerns.
Mario and I "fit" each other. He understand me, I understand him. I take everything he says as an opportunity to know him better. I know that no matter where on the globe he lives, he will always be a Surfer Dude from California. And he understands that I will always be a Long Island girl from NC. Its in our blood, and we will never change.
