For a moment, the circle of light was broken, and something gave Peter a loving little pinch.- Peter Pan
She is the fire that lights my life. Mia is a sexy, powerful woman, who absolutely adores anything which radiates feminine beauty. Yet she isn't afraid to roll up her sleeves when need be. Endlessly driven, her mind is a boundless spring of new ideas, enthusiastically scheming at all times. But beneath her fiery, and sometimes goofy personality, rests a kind compassionate soul wishing to make the world a more happy and verdant place. And miraculously, her heart longs for only me and I believe I am the happiest man in the world!
From the moment I laid eyes on this man I knew that he was going to be my most favorite person in the whole world. He's just so ridiculously interesting to me. I mean, who do you know that's a professional swordsmith nowadays? I can say that I personally know one. And will marry one soon! I swear the man can recite every word of the Constitution. If there is ever an injustice he'll make sure you know your rights. When something is wrong he somehow knows how to make it right. He adores cooking, being politically in the know, has a bit of a green thumb, admires nature, and has the travel bug. The perfect lover boy for this silly girl. The yin to my yang! And I am grateful that I'll get to spend a lifetime being endlessly entertained by Gabe. I am blessed to have him. He's just too ADORABLE!
I first saw Mia in class my senior year in economics class, the cute sorority girl who was usually late or in a hurry to class and sat on the other side of the room. Although we had class together, we never had a chance to talk with her and I had no reason to assume she would be the least bit interested in me...
Then came the annual “Devil's Dance” Halloween party co-hosted by my fraternity and her sorority. Thanks to a mutual friend, Elizabeth, I was introduced a sexy nurse named Maria. When we began dancing, immediately everything just seemed right in my world. Even now, the feeling is difficult to put into words. Even a while after we had stopped dancing, she had made such a lasting impression that I absolutely had to find her to ask her if she wanted to dance again. She did! Once the party had finished, I offered to give her a ride to her sorority, which was really only an excuse to spend more time alone with this fun woman I had just met, considering the “ride” was only a 100 yards or so through a safe college parking lot.
In the days after the Halloween dance, I would just happen to leave class at the same time as her ;-), and now that we had met I had a reason to make small talk. She always was in such a hurry that sometimes we'd would barely say 'hi' and I was starting to fear that maybe she didn't want to see me outside class...
Finally, after Thanksgiving, I was able get a date with her for coffee. We must have spent over two hours just talking, because by the time we left Starbucks it was already beginning to get dark outside. We were even more comfortable with each other than on the dance floor, and she was so fun much and intelligent that I was so amazed I had never met or even seen her on campus until my senior year!
After that fateful date, our relationship grew and grew as Mia would sneak out of her sorority to come over to my apartment to watch TV with increasing frequency. As we got to know each better there was no turning back, and as they say, the rest was history.
That's how he tells the story? There is a part of the tale that he failed to mention. Actually, he didn't know about this part for a very long time. So, let me bring you back to several weeks before that night he met me as a nurse and I met him as an oversized bumblebee.
It was fall semester of my Junior year in college and I was making all these preparations to go study abroad in the Spring. One afternoon, I decided to drop by my Advisor's office in Waller Hall. Just as I am walking up to her door I found myself frozen at the sight of the most beautiful person I had ever seen. Tall, dark, and handsome coming out of a stairwell. I couldn't do anything but stare! Time stopped. Seriously! As this guy starting walking up to me I remember getting totally flushed in the face (my glasses fogged up). How come I've never seen him before? Is he a transfer? Exchange student? a freshman? Did he catch me staring? Why did I decide to wear my pajamas and polka dot rain boots out? WHY?!. For a second I had even forgotten what I was doing in that hallway. And as he passed me I put my head down to stare at the carpet hoping he didn't catch me staring. It was by far the craziest feeling I've ever experienced.
From that moment I could not get this guy out of my head. I needed to know who he was. It turns out that this mystery man was in one of my classes that semester. I never noticed him because I was always late to this class and took a seat in the front row. 8am can be rough! My friend Elizabeth, who I had told about my crush, knew who he was. His name was Gabe, they'd had Spanish together, he was a Senior, a nice guy by reputation, and our sorority was having our annual Halloween dance with his fraternity that next weekend. Plan INTRODUCE MIA TO GABE was in action.
Since I had signed up to man the door for the event I didn't think I'd get a chance to "run into" him like I'd thought. Using the excuse that I was going to the "ladies room" I made my way through the crowd to see if I could find Gabe. Yep, I found him, walking my way, in a bumblebee costume, and I froze. As it was now or never, I stopped him by saying "Hi, aren't you in my econ class?! What's your name? Gabe. Cool. I'm Mia. Well, nice meeting ya!" and I ran away. Ugh, yes, I blew it. So I thought.
I told Elizabeth what happened. She grabbed my hand and said "Oh hell no. You are going to meet him right now," and pulled me through the crowd to where he was dancing. Next thing I know we're dancing. Hello Gabe. Nice to meet you. I was surprised at how fun he was. He was a good dance partner. I was even more surprised that he found me later that night to dance some more. And that is how I got him to notice me.
