Diana & Alfonso (insert: Juan Carlos)

I met Katie while attending Carleton University and playing on the varsity soccer team. Katie was in her second year on the team when I joined. We had an instant connection, even though I did not say much back then. Katie took it upon herself to show me around and make me feel comfortable. Later in our school years, we became roommates. We lived together for almost 4 years and in that time we were inseparable, we were like sisters, even some people thought we really were! Katie would take me over to her parents many times and I became one more member of the Chinkiwsky family. I felt welcomed and I was happy to have a family away from home, my Canadian family. Katie and I remain best friends.

Katie is an Electrical Engineer, and is currently working for a consulting company. She loves to sing and to make people laugh; she is outgoing, friendly and would do anything for a friend. Oh yeah, and she likes country music.

Conoci a Katie cuando estuve en la Universidad de Carleton estudiando y jugando futbol para el equipo de la U. Katie estaba en su segundo año en el equipo cuando yo empece. A pesar de que yo era bien tiemida ese primer año, con Katie tuvimos una buena relacion dentro y fuera del campo. Katie y yo nos hicimos buenas amigas casi que instantaneamente que conoci a mucha gente y la ciudad gracias a ella. Años despues pasamos a vivir juntas, y estuvimos viviendo en el mismo apartamento por 4 años. Durante este tiempo eramos inseparables, haciamos de todo juntas, pareciamos hermanas. Hubo gente que realmente penso que eramos hermanas de adeveras. Katie me llevo mucho a la casa de sus papas para cenas y eventos familiares, y los Chinkiwsky (apellido de Katie) se convirtion como mi segunda familia, mi familia canadience. Katie y yo seguimos siendo mejores amigas.

Katie es Ingeniera Electronica, trabaja para una compañia consultora. Le encanta cantar y hacer reir a la gente; es extrovertida, amigable y haria cualquier cosa por sus amigos. A, y le gusta la musica country.

I met Ana Lucia or "Chipus", like her friends call her, when I was 14. I wanted to play for a girl’s soccer team since up to that point I had only been playing with boys. Chipus was the goalie for a team that was playing right at that moment when my parents and I went and visited a soccer park. Fortunately for me, my step dad, Poncho, knew someone sitting at that game’s bench, a player’s dad, and got me a tryout on Chipus’ team. After that, I got a spot on the team and quickly became really close friends with Chipus, even though she was older than me. After playing Futsal together for many years, we both began playing soccer for the Women’s National League, and later got called up to play for the Guatemalan National Team.
Recently, Chipus retired from soccer but is still involved with the league and other events. We remain pretty close friends

Ana Lucia is a Dentist and Orthodontist; she owns her own Dental Clinic, Dentesa, and has recently opened an X-ray lab. She enjoys climbing volcanoes, scuba diving and loves Coca Cola.

Conoci a Ana Lucia o Chipus, cuando tenia 14 años. Yo queria jugar para un equipo de futbol de mujeres, ya que para ese entonces yo solo habia jugado en el colegio con hombres. Chipus era la portera de un equipo que estaba jugando en el momento preciso que llegamos con mis papas a visitar Futeca. Afortunadamente, Poncho, conocia a alguien en la banca de ese partido, que era papa de una de las jugadoras en el equipo de Chipus. Poncho ese día, me consigio un una prueba con este equipo de Chipus. Despues de eso, logre un puesto en el equipo e inmediatamente me hizo buena amiga de Chipus, a pesar que ella me llebaba unos años de mas. Despues de varios años de jugar Papi Fut, empezamos a jugar para la Liga Femenina de Futbol y en años siguientes fueimos convocadas a la Seleccion de Futbol de Guatemala. Recientemente, Chipus se retiro del futbol, pero sigue involucrada con la Liga y otros eventos de la misma naturaleza. Seguimos siendo buenas amigas.

Ana Lucia es una cirujana denstista, y odontologa. Es dueña de su propia clinica dental, Dentesa, y en el año pasado ha abierto su laboratio de Rayos X. Ana Lucia le gusta bucear, escalar volcanes y ama la Coca Cola!

Marie and I are cousins, Marie is the youngest of 15 cousins on my dad side, the Burmester. For being the youngest, Marie got a lot of attention but also we teased her a lot. Despite all the teasing, Marie grew up to be a normal kid, and has always stood up for herself. We've always had a special bond, we are both crazy for sports and are very social. Marie Franz started playing volleyball at a very young age; she has played for the Guatemalan National Volleyball Team, along with her sisters. On the court, Marie Franz plays the Setter position, running the team’s offence. In life, she is a goal setter and achiever, and by doing so, she is admired by everyone that surrounds her.

Marie is currently going to Med School; she is in her 2nd year and an excellent student. She loves to party, make people laugh and feel comfortable around her. She is a vegetarian and once she had milk that had expired on her cereal, and enjoyed it!

Marie y yo somos primas, Marie es la mas joven de 15 primos del lado Burmester. Por ser la mas pequeña de los primos, Marie recibio mucha atencion pero tambien la molestabamos mucho. A pesar de la molestadera, ella crecio normal y siempre sabiendo defenderse. Siempre hemos tenido una buena relacion, a las dos nos encanta los deportes y tambien somos bien sociables. Marie Franz empezo a jugar volleyball a temprana edad, ha jugado tambien para la Seleccion Nacional de Volleyball junto con sus hermanas. En la cancha, Marie juega de armadora, dirigiendo la ofenciva del equpipo. En la vida, ella se pone metas y las alcanza, siendo asi la armadora de su destino y es por esos que es admirada por quienes la rodean.

Marie esta estudiando Medicina, va en su segundo año y es una excelente estudiante. A Marie Franz le gusta pasarsela bien, hacer a gente reir y que se sientan comoda alrededor de ella. Es vegetariana y una vez tomo leche cortada en el cereal, y le gusto!

Erin is Glen’s sister. They are very close and are there for each other. I met Erin a few months after I started dating Glen. Before meeting Erin for the first time, I was nervous, because I had heard how close Erin was to Glen, so if I didn’t make a good first impression it was probably going to be over soon for me. However, the first time we met, it went well, and after a few minutes, Erin and I started talking a lot and teasing Glen. After that, every time we would get together at Glen’s parents for dinner it was like we knew each other for a long time. Erin and I soon found out we had a similar passion, soccer. A few years later we played soccer at the Sensplex and it was a lot of fun. Erin also got to know some of my soccer friends friends and would go out and we would have a great time.

Erin is a single mother, her son Bailey is 7 years old. She works at Canadian Forces Health Information Systems as a Project Coordinator.

Erin es la hermana de Glen. Ellos tienen una buena relacion, se llevan muy bien y se ayudan el uno al otro. Yo conocia a Erin meses depues que fuera novia de Glen. Antes de conocer a Erin por primera vez, yo estaba nerviosa, ya que yo sabia como era de importante Erin para Glen y si no hacia una buena primera impression podria ser que el noviazgo con Glen no iba a llegar muy lejos. Sin embargo, cuando nos conocimos, tomo solo unos mitutos para que nos sintieramos comodas y empezamos a platicar y a molestar a Glen. Despues de ese dia, cada vez que nos juntabamos en la casa de los papas de Glen, era como que yo conocia a Erin por mucho tiempo. Al tiempo, nos enteraromos que las dos teniamos una misma passion, el Futbol. Años despues jugamos en un equipo juntas y no la pasamos muy bien. Erin tambien conocio a mis otras amigas del fut y salimos juntas muchas veces.

Erin es mama soltera, su hijo Bailey tiene 7 años. Ella trabaja en Canadian Forces Health Information Systems como coordinadora de proyectos.
