Glenda and I talked about getting married for a while and we tried to make plans. There was one important thing that had to be done before any planning could take place, a commitment! So the week before my birthday party that Glenda planned for me, I decided to take the first step and make a commitment. So, I bought her the engagement ring! Back in December 2008, Glenda showed me the ring that she liked at a jewelry store in Arkansas. I located the same jewelry store in Kentucky and went and purchased the ring. Before I proposed to Glenda, it was important for me to get the blessings from my mother, Glenda’s parents and my daughters. Each one of them gave me their blessings. The next thing I had to figure out was when, where, and how to propose to her. I knew I wanted to propose to her during Memorial Day Weekend while I was in Arkansas. Then I decided I wanted to do it at the birthday party but pondered if I should do it in front of everybody or in private. I talked to my sister (Cynthia) and asked her. She said do it in front of everybody. So I agreed with her. I was anxious the whole week. I wanted to tell her so bad. I kept dropping hints but she didn’t pick up on them. I decided to propose to her after everyone sang “Happy Birthday” to me. When the song was over, I said “I have something to say." I was so-oo nervous. I turned Glenda towards me and told her that I loved her. Then I said “I told you that I was going to make a commitment to you”. I dropped to one knee, pulled out the ring and asked her to marry me. At first she jokingly said “Let me think about it” and then quickly said “yes”. LOL
