Some of the favorites of our relationship...
Grant and I met working in the Exercise and Environmental Physiology Labs in the Department of Human Physiology at the University of Oregon. Grant was working toward his PhD and I was finishing up my Bachelor's Degree while completing an Undergraduate Research Fellowship. I remember the day I first saw him sitting in the front row as a graduate student in my human physiology lecture...the goofy guy in the blue beanie. I always said I thought he was cute...
A year later at a 2005 Christmas party things started to heat up! We were all having a great time at the lab party and one of our good friends had a little too much to drink and let it slip to Grant that I had a crush on him! Grant proceeded to ditch his date for the night and asked me about how I felt. I couldn't deny that I liked him, but we went home with no true commitments.
The next day he called and asked me out for our first date...December 26, 2005...we've been together ever since!
(the picture is at the christmas party...Grant is with our friend Jenni who spilled the beans!)
At the end of July, we were on a road trip to visit friends in the midwest and spent a day hiking in the Grand Tetons. We had planned to do a hike, but the weather wasn't really cooperating. We decided to go anyway, despite the rain, thunder, and lightening! It was SO beautiful, we didn't mind the weather!
Apparently the original plan was for Tom and Donna to say they wanted to go on their own hike, so Grant would have an excuse for us to be alone. That didn't end up working out so Grant was kind of freaking out trying to figure everything out on the fly.
All of a sudden he stopped at the most beautiful spot to "take pictures"...This was all fine and good, but it wasn't very like Grant.. he usually isn't the one to initiate pictures. At that point Donna rushed Tom away.. I started to catch on a little bit, but I wasn't sure. I was really annoyed because I thought Tom and Donna just didn't want to hang out with us! Grant started saying he really had to pee... so we walked a little and we found a spot. I was insisting that he go in one place but he went behind a tree...now I know he didnt really need to pee he wanted to get the ring out of his pocket while he was out of sight.
Once I thought he was done peeing I started to continue the hike... we were cold and wet and I wanted to see as much as we could before it got too late. All of a sudden he said something and I turned around and there he was in a poncho on one knee with my ring. He asked me to marry him and I, of course, said YES!! I started screaming and laughing and kissing him... it was pretty funny Grant had to tell me to stop cuz we didnt want anyone to think I was getting eaten by a bear! From that point on I didn't want to hike. We just sat and talked and had a little photo shoot
