Gray and Becca

Our Story

Our story is one that shows of God's love and plans, and how they are far better than anything we could hope for ourselves.

About Gray

About Gray

I am a 3rd year student at MTSU, majoring in Computer Science with a double minor in Aerospace and Math. I'm originally from Memphis, TN where my parents and two younger brothers live. The past three semesters I've been a Resident Assistant in the freshman dorm Cummings and I currently work at the BAS 24/7 Computer Lab on campus. I've been involved in Campus Crusade for Christ since my freshman semester and I hope to join staff sometime in the future.

I want to follow after God and his plans for my life.

About Becca

About Becca

I'm originally from a family of five. I have an older sister and brother who I love very much. They have given me the chance to become an aunt to two great 11 year-old boys and a 4 year old little princess. Family means a lot to me and I have a rather large one. They are a lot of fun.

I'm a recent graduate of MTSU with a degree in Journalism(newpspaper and magazine concentration) and minoring in american music and theatre/speech. I wrote for Sidelines, the campus newspaper. I was a Resident Assistant on campus the past two years and I'm heavily involved in Campus Crusade for Christ. I have been blessed with the opportunity to serve God by leading a bible study on campus the past two years and going on summer project with Cru the past three summers.

I know that God has great plans for me and I'm eager to embrace them. I am letting him have complete control over my future and I'm so grateful that I have that opportunity, to trust in him to provide.

How We Met

How We Met

Gray and I met at the beginning of his Freshman year and my Junior years. I was a Freshman bible study leader and had recently made a committment to not date for six months. That first bible study he was placed in my group and the moment I saw him, I knew he was potentially the one for me. However, I quickly brushed it aside. He was a Freshman, after all. I didn't see him again for a few more weeks, but kind of ignored him. Then in November, I got back from a trip to Gatlinburg, TN and called up my friend Samantha. She told me to meet her at the Cyber Cafe on campus so I said, "Sure."

Well, Samantha abandoned me there and when I called her, she said she was over at Felder in Gray Sanborn's room. He apparently said I could "come over". I then proceeded to call him a loser and went on over to his room. Samantha ended up leaving us together in his room for about three hours (with the door wide open) and she kept coming in and out along with other people. At one point she even said that she had told Robert that she was playing "matchmaker" and I could have killed her for it (she said it right in front of Gray). Well, after that meeting, we continued to hang out a lot, we talked on aim a lot and eventually, he asked me to go to the Cru Winter Formal with him and I said yes. A few days after that we had a talk and admitted that we liked each other but that we weren't ready for a relationship yet.

Gray came and visited me during Christmas break and by this time, we were getting pretty close, almost acting as though we were dating, but not officially dating. We came back for Resident Assistant training and on January 14, 2006 at 11:52 p.m. we declared ourselves official on facebook.

The more I look at our story, the more I can see how God wove us together and made us for each other. His timing is perfect.

How Gray Proposed

How Gray Proposed

Ok, so Gray and I had been talking about marriage, and we knew we wanted to get married. Over the Thanksgiving break he planned to ask my parents for permission to marry me. I knew about this, but my mother spilled the beans to me in the car on Thanksgiving day. It was at this point Gray realized that telling my mother his plans to propose to me, yeah not such a great idea. So, Gray began to formulate a plan. He co-conspired with Jenny Rone (my bible study leader) to help with the proposal. He had a few ideas for proposing to me, but only one idea seemed to work the best. That idea was to propose at a leadership meeting for Campus Crusade for Christ that we both needed to attend. Well, Gray made plans with Jenny and at the same time, he had to get the ring. He managed to purchase the ring while we were both in Memphis during the Christmas break. Gray then proceeded to hide the ring in his computer tower, a place he was sure I'd never look for it. He purposedly lied to me and gave me dates that he could possibly propose to avert my attention so that the real day would be a surprise. So, on January 14, 2007, which happens to be the anniversary (our first) of when we started dating, we went to Jenny Rone's house for the leadership meeting. I was actually eating a cookie and sort of in my own world when Jenny Rone comes up to me and says, "Hey, you might want to go check on Gray outside, I think he's sick or something". I immediately put up red flags, but I'm like, "Ok, that's weird, but I'll go check on him." So I go outside and Gray is at the deck. He turns around with a smile on his face, gets down on one knee and asks me if "I would do him the honor of becoming his wife?" I say "Yes" followed by, "You got me good" and he proceeds to put the ring on my finger.

So, that's the story about how we became engaged, and what makes it extra sweet was that I had been having a rough day and I seriously did not think I was going to be getting a ring this early and definitely not on our anniversary. So, that's the story and we plan on getting married in May of 2008.
