Ethan & Elisa

Offbeat? Me?

When I first started planning our wedding, we had no idea what we wanted. Did we want a big wedding? Did we want to run away to Vegas and get it over with? Did we want to go into debt turning the reception hall into a Wonderland that would put Cinderella's Castle to shame?
Somehow, even though we had no idea what we wanted, it had never crossed my mind that I would have anything other than a white dress, roses, and three rosey-cheeked Bridesmaids dressed in some horrible taffeta mess that made them look 'adorable'.
Somehow when I was searching the internet trying to get some ideas, I stumbled across this little website www.offbeatbride.com. Here I found people who  decided that they didn't want their weddings to become a page from Modern Bride. They knew who they were and what they like, and they wanted their weddings to reflect that.
I poured over this website, all my years of thinking that wedding's had to be a certain way being proved wrong.
Red wedding dresses and tattooed brides?

Pink hair and wedding cupcakes?

*GASP!* Is that a Wedding Musical?!? Can you do that?!

Reading about all these wedding made me realize that I didn't want a cookie-cutter wedding, something that Ethan agreed with me on. We weren't traditional people. We wanted something that would fit us, not something that we were forced to fit into. He wanted orange, green, and Irish-I wanted Old Hollywood glamour and Buffy readings! We didn't want to bulk tradition altogether, we just wanted to add little bits of ourselves to it.
We're still getting married in a church, we're still going to have the YMCA. The Bride just might be wearing Chucks and the Groom might throw a Doctor Who quote into his vows. There might be hand-fasting and broom jumping, and there most definitely will be action figures on our cake! Hey-there might even be a Buffy Musical Sing-Along! Who knows!?! No matter what happens, we're getting married, and we're going to have fun doing it. In the end, what else matters?
