Instead of my usual weekend laziness, I actually got a lot done!
Saturday my bridesmaids and I took a trip over to David's Bridal. I'm actually surprised that we all made it there-we all drove separately and got lost in the same maze-like residential Woodbury area. Mapquest really is evil.
Thankfully, we found bridesmaid dress AND my wedding dress! The girls all decided on something they liked after they became annoyed with my indecisiveness. I was really happy with what they chose, but once they all left and we went up to order, we were told that we couldn't get that dress in the color that I wanted. Really? Crap. Mashayla and I ran through the aisles, trying to find something similar. Apparently, none of the tea-length dresses we found came in yellow, so we settled on a floor length dress with the same neckline as the one the girls chose.

Shopping for my dress was a lot easier. I brought with my gorgeous wedding jacket created by Rohm on www.etsy.com

The jacket really made dress shopping much easier. I ended up finding a dress that matched the lacy pattern on the jacket perfectly. It wasn't what I imagined myself ever wearing, but when I put it on, my mom cried. How do you say no to the dress that made your mom cry? (and as a plus, it gives me a little waist. Yay!) Ethan wants to be suprised, so I promised not to upload a picture. It's shiny though-and when I say shiny, I mean gorgeous!
Now, I mentioned www.etsy.com a little ways up, and I really feel the need to plug it again. I love this website! I've found so much of my wedding stuff on here-it's all handmade things that you can't find anywhere else (and if for some reason you can't find what you want, you can have it made in the alchemy section). Do yourself a favor and check it out-it's amazing stuff!
On Sunday, we decided on our vows-handfasting included. I really don't remember where I found them- it was either on the OffbeatTribe or IndieBride forums. The vows really seem to fit us, I think. They're beautiful, lots of emphasis on two equal halves creating a whole, etc. Lots of vows make me feel like the bride is changing ownership from her father to her husband, and I really don't like that. These vows were a nice mixture of tradition and more modern independence, which I really appreciate.
We also got some reception details ironed out. I wanted to have both my parents walk me down the aisle, and my mom liked that idea a lot. We went over our ideas for the reception, and she was a little worried that people might not get what we're doing, so we said that we'd explain.
This is what we're going to be doing: We want our wedding to show who we are, so our reception is going to be a mixture of things that we love. Vintage, Sci-Fi, Celtic, and Patchwork elements are going to be infused into our wedding. Another thing that we're doing that I'm really excited for is a Wish Tree. It's traditionally a Chinese custom, but I've decided to steal it.
Here's what they've got over on OffbeatBride: "Red envelopes are traditionally given by chinese people on days of
celebration filled with money. instead, we asked that all guests at our
wedding participate in our ceremony by writing their wishes for our
marriage on a card and placing it in the red envelope."

We're hoping to set up a tree by photos of our parents and grandparents and have guests hang their wishes during the reception.
Well, those are some of the plans so far! Down another day, and still so much to do-hope you all have a good Monday!
