The wedding industry. Billions of dollars a year, for one day. A very important day, but still, just 24 hours. Weddings can cost more than a car, a college education, more than some people make in a year. When you think about it that way, it seems a b it ridiculous to spend all that money when many elements of it are so temporary. Joe and I care deeply about the environment, and are trying to be green in our wedding. Here are a few solutions we have come up with.
I will be organically growing all flowers for this wedding. We don't need many in our beautiful reception, its in a luscious landscaped park with a cascade.
No streamers, balloons, confetti, fake flowers, rose petals or rice. All decorations will be made with leftover fabric from my dress.
Economical, Ecological, and Practical. Not to mention you wont need a designated driver.
We're serving snacks and cupcakes on biodegradable plates that will be composted after the wedding!
Thats right, our invitations will not contain a SASE RSVP. We save SO much paper and air this way. Think about it! How much pollution is caused just from the mailman delivering all those RSVP cards back to us when we can just use a simple website function? And what about all that wasted paper? Sure, its not the Martha Stewart way to do things, but our whole wedding is unconventional, why should the invitations be any different? Each invitation will link guests to this site to RSVP, get information on registry, directions, accommodations etc. Really, the invitation is a keepsake, not a necessity in the 21st century. Of course, the guests who do not use the internet will be provided for, but there are so few of them, it really makes a difference to abandon the wastefull, old fashioned ways.
