What is a Bridal Registry??

A bridal registry is a free service provided by retail or department stores to assist engaged couples in the communication of gift preferences to their wedding guests. The couple registers at the store with their date of wedding and selects items to create a wish list. The list is then published in the store's bridal registry album or bulletin and is made available to wedding guests wanting to know which gifts to give to the couple. The guest then chooses and purchase an item from the list with the assistance of a store personnel. Upon the purchase of a listed item, the registry is updated accordingly indicating which items had been purchased or not to prevent the receipt of duplicate or unwanted gifts. This is potentially advantageous for the three parties involve; the givers (guests), since it will save them the hassle of thinking what to give and saves them time in choosing; the recipient (couple), having the assurance that they will receive the gifts that they really wanted or needed; and the store merchants, making a sale out of their items.
