The Engagement

One sunny Tuesday, Krisha got a text invite from Johann for an Antonio’s Tagaytay dinner in the coming Saturday. He said that Jake and Krisha REALLY needed to come as he was proposing to his girlfriend that night. Eager to witness such profession of love, Krisha excitedly confirmed the attendance.
On their way to the dinner, Jake told Krisha that he’s part of the planning process and that it was gonna be a quadruple date with some of their close couple friends. They were late.
Johann’s primary hobby is photography, so it wasn’t obvious that something was cooking up despite full camera set-up around the table. As the dinner take place, topics of conversation revolved around the typical barkada updates, the never-ending picture taking, Sher and Tin sharing newly wed stuff. Johann seemed unusual that night being so nervous, out of his bubbly character. His girlfriend Farids even mentioned that he’s been acting so weird since that morning. Krisha just kept her secret smile.
Before dessert, nothing exciting was yet happening and so Krisha decided to get her phone from the car while Jake accompanied her. As they were walking, Krisha kept on bogging Jake on what’s about to happen, when will the proposal take place. Jake said that the plan was for the waiter to bring in some dessert, in time for proposal. Krisha thought that putting the ring on a cake is the lamest proposal ever!
Jake went back to the table and as Krisha was walking to the powder room, she saw the waiter carrying the box of cake, walking towards the group. Krisha in a scolding manner immediately instructed the guy to go back and wait for her as she needed to take a break. Of course she didn’t want to miss it. After all that’s what they were there for.
wahaha...the moment
Krisha sat still on the table while everybody started getting their act together. J.A and Ziera positioned their cameras directed toward Johann. Johann stood up and upon the waiter’s arrival, got the cake and started his spiel. Krisha was so into the moment listening to Johann manifesting his love. Farids looked so nervous. Slowly, Johann placed the cake on the table, as he was about to pop the question, the cake revealed in front of Krisha. The message in Chinese characters said “Will you come into my life?” Her bewildered eyes went rolling as she saw her Chinese name, together with the Chinese name she gave Jake. Shock hit Krisha and for 30 seconds everyone went silent. Everything became a blur. And before Krisha knew it, Jake knelt down, opened a box and said “ Krisha, I love you so much will you marry me?” After 10 seconds, still in awe, Krisha answered “I think....yes.”
surprise within a surprise
Tears rolled down Krisha’s eyes in the car. It sunk in just then. When she opened her eyes, they were already outside Rex's beautiful rest house. As Jake and Krisha opened the front door, almost 30 of their lifelong friends from different barkada groups congratulated them. 8 chosen friends gave Krisha 8 long-stemmed roses to symbolize the eight colorful years of their relationship. They ate the proposal cheesecake made by Jeanny (Krisha’s best friend). They laughed and danced the night away.
Last April 18 2008, Jake and Krisha were engaged.
