Japes and Tala

The Story So Far

The Setup
It was a Friday afternoon and I had no work that day. Took a late lunch and checked my emails and phone for a message from my friend Fiona. She was playing the role of Cupid and had set me up on a blind date with her officemate that night. I was feeling nervous and giddy at the same time as I have never been on a blind date before. I've also heard countless horror stories about blind dates that go wrong so I was tempering my enthusiasm and kept telling myself not to expect anything. At the very least, I was gaining a new friend and I wouldn't have to spend my Friday night at home.

The Meet Up
I headed out to Eastwood City late that afternoon and proceeded to just walk around until I met up with Fiona and her husband, Allan. I was about 30 minutes to an hour early (yes, excited ako) and unfortunately was caught roaming around by the aforementioned Cupid duo. They invited me to a late merienda and I really should have said “no” since I got ribbed non-stop about being early and well-dressed. At around 7:30PM, I met up with Fiona and her other officemate, Trina at Jack's Loft. Allan was held up at the office and it appeared that my blind date was either setting up a no-show or planning a grand entrance.

The Arrival
My date finally arrives. First impression: petite, chinita, simple, cute smile and a unique name: Tala. Short introductions were in order and we sat down at our table for some chatting while we ordered and waited for our food. We started with the small talk: hobbies, games we play, tech talk, and...

Retcon
For some reason, the discussion wavered into comic books (at this point Fiona and Trina were already weirded out by 2 geeks talking about games, tech, and comics). And Tala surprised me by using the word 'retcon' during the conversation which prompted me to think: I've never heard a girl use the term 'retcon'. EVER. And that made me smile as I knew right there that I could have long and fun conversations with her (she must have noticed that and thought I was a weirdo). After dinner, we talked a bit more and when it was time to say good night, I fumbled my way into asking for her number. Tala had earlier mentioned that she was good in building PCs; so I asked if I could have her number so I can ask her some questions when I decide to build one. (Yes, it was lame, but I did get her number.)

To be continued.
