Directions and such

Flying in

For those of you who will be flying in, Denver International Airport is your airport destination.

From here, you are 2-2 1/2 hours drive east of Devil's Thumb Ranch.

Feel free to contact other guests to arrange carpools! Save a little cash and save the fresh mountain air from a little extra pollution :-)

From DIA, get on I-70 going west toward Denver, via Pena Blvd. You'll be on I-70 for the majority of your journey into the mountains. Past Idaho Springs, begin watching for Exit 232 toward US-40/Empire/Granby (you will also see road signs for Rocky Mountain National Park).

Take US-40 over Berthoud Pass (steep, windy mountain road, fyi. Save your brakes on the downhill side!) You will pass Winter Park Resort and through the towns of Winter Park and Fraser. The turn-off for Devil's Thumb Ranch is between Fraser and Tabernash. There is a large sign along the highway, but can potentially be easy to miss. It will be on the right.

Turn right on Co Highway 83 and follow the signs to Devil's Thumb Ranch (approx. 3 1/2 miles up Co Highway 83). It is a maintained dirt/gravel road.

From Fort Collins

Head toward Loveland and get on US-34, heading west toward Estes Park.

Through a variety of twists and turns (when approaching Estes Park, try to avoid the business loop of US-34, it will take you through the middle of town. It's a cute town, but it will take longer to get to the Rocky Mountain National Park entrance), you will arrive at the entrance of RMNP ($20 entrance fee, good for 7 days). Enjoy the drive over Trail Ridge Road!

On the other side of RMNP, you will pass Grand Lake. Continue on US-34 toward Granby.

Once you have arrived in Granby, merge onto US-40 heading east. This will take you through the town of Granby. Continue on US-40 for approx. 13 miles (you'll pass the YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch on your right about half way between Granby and the turn off for Devil's Thumb Ranch). The turn-off for Devil's Thumb Ranch will be on your left. There is a large sign on the side of the highway.

Turn left onto Co Highway 83. Take this road for approx. 3 1/2 miles. Welcome to Devil's Thumb Ranch!

This will take around 3 hours (not including stops along the way to take in the beautiful views along Trail Ridge Road!)

From Denver/DIA via Trail Ridge Road

If you have the time, we highly recommend this longer, but more scenic drive through Rocky Mountain National Park:

From Denver, head toward Fort Collins/Loveland by going north on I-25.

Get on US-34 via exit 257, heading west toward Loveland/Estes Park.

Home James Shuttle Service

This is a shuttle service that serves the Winter Park/Fraser Valley area. Limited service during the fall (last I checked, the summer & fall schedule for 2012 had not been posted, but will probably be identical or at least similar to the 2011 summer & fall service schedule), but potentially a great option to get to and from the mountains from DIA. Rates go down as group size increases.

Do keep in mind there is limited public transportation once you're up in the Fraser Valley. It may be worth your time to find other wedding guests to split the cost of a rental car (lets you enjoy everything the area has to offer, since there is a bit of distance between many of the attractions, especially Rocky Mountain National Park).
