Jay and I both began Fontbonne in the fall of 2004. We lived in the St. Joe's freshman dorms. I was on the all girls 3rd floor and Jay was on the all boys 2nd floor. I spotted Jay in the 3rd floor hallway and he immediately caught my attention. Luckily, after he had a history class with a close friend of mine, he came up to visit her and meet her dorm neighbors (which included me). Later that week, Jay stopped by my room with a Beatles CD he had made for me. Soon after this, I saw him around campus often...I could always count on him being in either the library, the dining hall or on the basketball court. It didn't take him long to "smooze" me over as he taught me how to play basketball, pool and Mario Nintendo!
One afternoon, Jay invited my friends and I to go out with him and his high school friends Dan and Steve. When it came time to leave, all of my friends decided not to go! I went along with thier scheme and went down to Riddles on the Delmar Loop with the three boys by myself. Needless to say, it was a interesting night...one all four of us still joke about! We continued to hang out around the dorms, playing catch in the hallways, having movie marathons and perfecting our ping-pong skills. When Thanksgiving break rolled around, we went on one of our first dates (without Dan and Steve)! He took me to see one of his favorites at the Tivoli, they were playing the Indiana Jones trilogy. Little did he know, this was one of my favorites because I grew up watching these movies with my mom. After this date, Jay had won me over and I couldn't wait for more!
Fall of 2008 was a busy time for us; Jay began his first teaching job, I began student teaching and I decided to move back home to save money. Because of this, we both looked forward to our Friday night dates. The first weekend in October we decided to go to dinner and Bishop DuBourg's Homecoming football game. After the game, we decided to swing by my parent's house since I was moving back home the next morning. When we got there, my parent's were gone and Jay said he was going downstairs to see my room. A few minutes later, I met him downstairs and found him sitting on my bed. He pulled me over and got down on his knee and asked if we should "make it official" again! We have joked for years about how he first kissed me, so he brought me back to the exact spot where it happened...During those first few months of school in 2004, we made a visit to my parent's house one day. It was then when Jay told me "we should make it official" and kissed me for the first time. It was perfect how he used one of our favorite inside jokes for the proposal!
