We met seven years ago working at earls in Edmonton. At the time, I don't think either of us imagined we would end up spending our lives together! Jeff moved to Calgary shortly after (I helped him move!) and I soon ended up in Vancouver. We kept in touch with the occasional e-mail or chat and over the years our friendship grew.
In the summer of 2009, we met for dinner while I was in Calgary on business, catching up right where we had left off. Jeff invited me along with a group of friends to the Bahamas the following December, which sounded like a fantastic idea! Not to mention we were heading to Paradise Island...
Something about the tropical breeze, the endless prosecco and the sweet sounds of Don Lee's rendition of the Little Mermaid helped us realize there may have been more to this friendship than we thought.
When Jeff decided to move to Vancouver in May 2010 (even though he swears he didn't move to be closer to me), we quickly realized that we were meant for each other; the perfect balance of funny, quirky, sweet and kind. Instead of love at first sight, we realized our friendship had become the strongest foundation for our relationship.
Clearly moving quickly, we shacked up in our cozy condo in November 2010 and seem to have fit into each others lives perfectly. Although, my shoes and clothes take up a tiny bit more space than his and he keeps buying techie gadgets...
I wish I could tell you it was a huge surprise when he popped the question on August 5, 2011 but... let's just say both of us were too excited to keep it a secret!
We had gone ring shopping together and Jeff couldn't contain himself when the ring arrived, so from that moment, I started looking for free time in my busy travel schedule for a romantic weekend where he'd inevitably whisk me away and orchestrate a hugely original and over the top proposal.
We both tell completely different versions of this story so for the sake of time, I'll give you the short and sweet version. Weeks later, we had plans to head up to Whistler and it just so happened, Jason Mraz was playing a free concert in town. Jeff ended up proposing after "Lucky I'm in Love (with my Best Friend)" surrounded by hundreds of people and some of our close friends. Jocelyn even brought champagne! It was perfect! We enjoyed the rest of the show and a fabulous dinner (with scrumptious BC wines) at our favorite local restaurant, Alta Bistro.
We are so excited to be taking this next step in our lives together and can't wait to share our special moment with our closest friends and family.
