Quite a few years ago back in the summer of 2003 there was an 18 year old lady named Sara and there was an 18 year old guy named Jeffrey. Without knowing it, they grew up only a twenty minute drive away from each other. They both played water polo. They both swam. They both loved the ocean. They both knew they loved each other before they met.
One day Sara and her friend Emilie went to Santa Barbara to watch her fellow water polo friends play in a summer tournament. After watching a few games they decided to head home. On their way off the pool deck Sara's friend Scott came running up and gave her a huge hug. He told her thank you for coming to watch the games. He then introduced her to his friend "Chaney". Sara introduced herself, wished the boys good luck, and went on home.
A few months later Sara and Scott were hanging out with some friends. Scott told Sara "you remember that huge hug I gave you at the Santa Barbara tournament?" Sara recalled this huge hug and said "yeaaahh??" Scott went on to tell her that his friend Chaney had made a bet with him. He bet Scott twenty bucks that he couldn't get a hug from Sara. Little did Chaney know Sara and Scott were long time friends. After hearing this explanation, the overly huge hug from Scott made sense to Sara. She said "well you owe me ten!"
Months went by and Sara started her first season of water polo at Cuesta College. As did this "Chaney" character. Sara was a goalie, known for her hot pink zinced up lips, and her twiggish figure. Chaney was a two-meter man, known for his arms longer than the Great Wall of China, and his comical comments to the opposing teams. Throughout the 2004 water polo season, they both knew who each other were. Sara knew he was an "AG boy", and Jeff knew she was "That Righetti girl". Eventually Scott had told Sara that the friend of his who had bet him he couldn’t get a hug from her was also playing for Cuesta College. Towards the end of the season Scott called Sara up one evening and asked her to get Jeff Chaney's number for him. She called around to her teammates and luckily the one and only Vreeke had his number. Before Sara gave his number to Scott she decided to call Jeff Chaney and tell him his number was going to be passed on to Scott. She left him a message, then went ahead and gave Scott his number. She's didn't think too much about it until Jeff called her right back. She answered and explained why she had called. The conversation went on a little further and before she knew it Sara had invited Jeff over to watch surf videos. With butterflies in her stomach she ran frantically around the apartment cleaning up, fixing her hair, and getting the living room in order for her guest. A little while later Jeff arrived at her place. They sat close on the couch, watched movies, and talked until two in the morning. They felt like they had known each other forever. After Jeff went home Sara felt so excited about this new possible adventure of a relationship. This guy that seemed perfect for her. She did not sleep one wink that night. She laid there thinking about Jeff Chaney and how cute, sweet, fun, smart, talented, and the unexplainable connection between them. The very next morning they both had their Conference Championship Tournament. They both were very tired from staying up until the morning talking. They both knew it was very well worth it. From then on it was history, Sara and Jeff were inseparable....Six years later, through different colleges, adventures, jobs, and towns "Twiggs" and "Chainsaw" are planning their wedding. June 11th, 2011.
During the dating years Jeff and Sara, as you know met at 18 and started out dating at the sweet young age of 19. They finished up their Cuesta College years together. Both active parts of the the water polo and swim team. Once it was time to transfer to a University Sara decided to move north to Sonoma State University. There she played one season of water polo and majored in Psychology. She graduated in May 2008 with her degree. Meanwhile Jeff moved south to California Lutheran University. There he played water polo for two years and majored in Communications and PR. Jeff graduated the following year 2009 with his degree. The two spent many many hours on the road driving to see each other. Many hours on the phone talking throughout the day, every day. Having a 7 hour drive between them was not easy. It was a great test of their love and commitment to each other. Now that Jeff and Sara are college graduates, they both are residing on the Central Coast. Since graduating, Sara is a behavior therapist, working for a local company that treats children with Autism. She loves to take photos of Jeff surfing, practice yoga, improve her sewing skills, drink wine, travel, spend time with her close girlfriends, and watch endless episodes of FRIENDS. Jeff works as a wine buyer and bar tender for a charming restaurant in Los Alamos called Full of Life Flatbread. Jeff loves to bodyboard, surf, play music (drums, synth, guitar), drink and analyze wine, play water polo, and relax on the porch of his Pismo Beach cottage.
Jeffrey and Sara had been dating for five and a half years when they got engaged.
It was June 15th, 2010. The day after Sara's 25th birthday. Jeff had told Sara he would take her camping at Jalama Beach to celebrate her 25th. Excited to go camping, Sara rushed home from work, packed up a bag and collected all the camping supplies she could. A little while later Jeff picked her up, loaded the car, then headed to HWY 1. They took the drive nice and slow, taking in the most beautiful evening. They stopped on Jalama road to enjoy the sun setting. It was the most breathtaking view both of them had ever witnessed. They made their way up the road to Jalama Beach. They checked in and found a great spot to set up camp. It was starting to get dark so Jeff decided to go collect some twigs to get a warm fire started. He used Sara's new pink flashlight to find what he needed. When he returned he told Sara he was so sorry but he had twisted the top too far and the flashlight came apart with some of the pieces disappearing into the brush. Sara quietly grumbled over their only flashlight being broken. Jeff sat down next to her by the fire, his guitar in his lap. They shielded themselves away from the cold wind they relaxed near the fire with some wine. Jeff was fiddling around with the flashlight trying to put it back together. While doing so he dropped a part into the guitar that was on his lap. He was digging around and around for what seemed like quite awhile to Sara. Right as she was going to offer her help, Jeffrey jumped out of his camping chair, onto his knee, he took her hand and said to her "I love you more than anything in the whole world, will you marry me?" Not expecting this AT ALL. Sara lost her breath! She was so shocked she couldn't even speak! She immediately started crying, hugged and kissed him, and managed to squeak out a "YES! Of course I will!" Completely shaken up, happy, excited, and still in a state of shock the two sat close, not able to wipe the silly smile off their faces.
They spent a few more days out in the secluded Jalama Land, where they gently discussed future plans and enjoyed each other along with some Jalama burgers of course! By the end of the week they were both so happy to return home and share the good news with their family and friends.
