The process of coming to the conclusion that I wanted to marry Chelsea was basically realizing that she is the most important person in the world to me, and that that shift wasn’t going to change. Now that she has surpassed all friends and family in my priority list, it has helped me really assess the importance of those people, and the roles they will continue to play, in my life. I have moved far enough away from the forest that I can see the trees, if you will. And please do.
“Just wait till you have kids.” You know the phrase; it begins with different variations of having children, and then ends with something that will inevitably happen. Just wait till you have a snotty son and he’s not happy with what you got them for Christmas. Just wait till you have a seventeen year old who is out till two in the morning without calling. Just wait till you see what real life is like. Most of the time these sentences come out due to the frustration of a parent caused by a naïve child who doesn’t realize what they mean to their parents.
Well, Mom and Dad, it has been a long time coming but you can finally begin to cash in and get the pay-off that those sentences bring. Chelsea and I are not even married yet, and I have a great idea at how hard it is going to be for just us two, let alone bringing more people into the family who are aren’t going to realize what they mean to us for twenty years. There are plenty of things I could go on and apologize for, growing up was tough on all of us, but I won’t act like you need it.
Thank you. Hope I was worth the struggle (so far, anyway).
