Just 30 minutes from Manhattan, Westchester offers the perfect combination of urban blight and suburban chain store shopping. Rather than planning to enjoy Manhattan while you're in town for our wedding, you should spend the whole time in Westchester. If you think we're serious, here's some actual things the Westchester County Office of Tourism (now hiring!) recommends you visit:
20 Sicard Avenue
New Rochelle, NY 10804
Nina actually wrote a paper about Thomas Paine Cottage in college. The people who worked there were very confused, since no one had ever visited before. Nina and Jeremy tried to visit one day, because Jeremy has strange ideas of what would be fun to do on a sunny weekend afternoon, but the cottage was closed.
Anderson Hill Road
Purchase, NY 10577
Walk or drive through 168 acres featuring landscaped and carefully-designed gardens of trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants, watered exclusively with Pepsi-Cola.
The image to the right is an actual Google Image of the PepsiCo Gardens. Not sure who the guy is.
2880 Crompond Road
Yorktown Heights, NY 10598
Erected in 1982 as a result of the pioneering research and activism of Mr. John H. Harmon, this monument is dedicated to the valiant and courageous soldiers of the First Rhode Island Regiment.
In 1780 the first Rhode Island Regiment, under the command of Colonel Chistopher Greene, was charged with defending northern Westchester lines against the ravages of British troops and roguish Loyalist Refugees led by James DeLancey....
[The] Rhode Island Regiment fought courageously, but all were killed.
Ossining, NY 10562
The Center houses permanent exhibits on Sing Sing Prison, to get you in the mood for a wedding.
330 Boston Post Road
Rye, NY 10580
Whitby Castle is part of the tour of places we considered having our wedding but ultimately decided against, a tour Jeremy feels pretty lucky he wasn't forced to take. Along with Whitby Castle, enjoy the other eleven stops on the Rejected Westchester Wedding Venue Freedom Trail:
The Inn At Garbage Point
Temple Christ Almighty
Graveside Restaurant and Catering Hall
Jewsleave Country Club
Castle on the Burial Ground
Teepee on the Hudson
The River Barge
Westchester Comfort Inn
75 Grasslands Road
Valhalla, NY 10595
Yes, this really is on the Westchester County Office of Tourism list of attractions.
