Our story is pretty simple and unassuming, but amazing:)
We had orignally met, for only 15 minutes or so, back in 2000 at my brother's apartment. We just basically said "hi" and that was it ( I didn't think anything of it). We met again on February 16th, 2003 on a spur of the moment. I was with my brother and my sister-in-law, and he called Mike to see if he wanted to eat out with us. Come to find out, Mike lived up the road from the place we were heading to. I felt like crap and worn out and it wasn't a 'date', just meeting up with my brother's long-time friend. I overheard my brother talking to Mike in the vestibule after dinner about taking me out on a date the following weekend and Mike agreed (albeit relunctantly).
So, fast forward to February 22, 2003, and all four of us again go out on a double-date. Mike was exhausted from working and I was nervous as hell, so after dinner, we go back to my brother's place and we're sitting on the couch on opposite ends with a mountain of pillows between us. Mike volunteered to drive me home and it was in the middle of a lightning-filled rainstorm (cause he loved the rain).
We get to my place and we're just sitting in his truck talking for hours on end. He just had the cutest look on his face while I was talking (I'll never forget the look) and he thought I was completely adorable. I asked for his number (how forward of me, but it was on my brother's advice to do this), said goodnight and that we'll talk in 2-3 days, and went upstairs. It was 2 in the morning and I am crying my eyes out because I knew he was the "one".
I come to learn that he had not stopped thinking about me after that 15 minute encounter in 2000. Well, after the 'official date" on Feb. 22, 2003, we've been inseparable since then :)
The date was Sunday, June 18th, 2006. Not only was is Father's Day, but incidentally, it was Paul McCartney's 64th birthday (a nugget for the Beatles fans). I knew Mike was up to something for awhile because periodically he would ask me about jewelery and ring sizes (isn't that a tell-tale sign). Anyway, it's mid-to-late afternoon and I get out of the shower, hair still dripping wet and I'm bundled up in my robe.
Mike is sitting on edge of the bed with this burgandy colored box. He's got a goofy look on his face and hands me the box. I thought it was another little jewerly gift, but he tells me it's something more than that and wants me to open the box. I take the lid off and there's a ring box inside. I open it up and inside is a white gold diamond solitare ring. I clearly remember gawking at the jeweler name inside the lid of the box (don't remember why I did that).
I asked Mike "is this what I think it is?" and he said yes. He didn't formally do the traditional "down on one knee" bit and asked me to be his wife. The funniest thing he did was after I open the ring box, he gives me an envelope and tells me to hang onto it because it contains the ring appraisal and GIA certificate. I didn't cry because I was in shock and in awe because I could not believe this was happening. After that, everything else that day was a blur!
