In Chinese culture, it is customary to start the procession from the groom's home to the bride's home. The groom would lead a procession, and his attendants would follow.
When the groom arrives at the bride's home, the groom's party would be met by the bride's friends, who would haggle with the groom or his representatives. They would make him perform stunts or tricks, and not "surrender" their friend until they are satisfied with red packets of money.
This event is a wedding party / family affair.
