Julie and Kevin met in 1992 when she was introduced as a new student at Or Atid's Hebrew school. Kevin stole a brief glance at Julie but quickly returned to his Stephen King novel. Julie annoyed everyone by being the first to memorize "Adon Olam." They danced together at a few Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, their bodies as far apart as humanly possible. Years went by. In high school, Kevin impressed Julie by offering to drive her home from parties, making the long trek to Julie's home in distant Short Pump, a good eight minutes (!!) out of his way.

Julie and Kevin both ended up choosing the University of Maryland for college. They became best friends freshman year, taking long drives to Annapolis and bravely trying Domino's cinnamon sticks. They started dating the summer after sophomore year. Eight-and-a-half years later, Kevin proposed in Charlottesville, the site of their first kiss that summer.
