Daren and Kara met, admittedly, in cyberspace. But their first date was at "The Market", a local coffee shop and deli in downtown Denver. Over a steaming cup of joe, stories of travel were exchanged. We each were a captive audience to the tales of a mugging on a russian subway, volunteer work in africa, and getting lost in the streets of europe. We did not know we would create many more stories of international incident together...
Site of our first date!
We got engaged at the "Highlands Garden Cafe" on August 7, 2009. It is a beautiful old house with lovely outdoor gardens. Daren thought of all the details, from the lilies on the table (my favorite flower), to the beautiful ring he gave me. Of course I said yes! After he proposed, he told me the story of how he planned to do it when we were in Crested Butte the weekend earlier, but the ring was not ready. He had been baking fortune cookies with messages in them that said "wise woman will say yes", and "roses are red, violets are blue, I'm not good at poetry, but I love you, MARRY ME SWEETIE"- with the plans to ask me at our favorite asian restaurant in CB. The fortune cookies were delicious in spite of the failed plans :)
Where we got engaged!
The side of the Highlands Garden Cafe house where there is a small porch with one table on it. Where "my romeo" proposed to "his juliet"!
