Couples Resort - The Gazebo
Negril, Jamaica
The wedding of Kari and Dan took place on Wednesday, May 7th, 2007 the 9 year anniversary of their good friends, Dawn and Brent.
The procession began with the sister-of-the-bride, Dawn walking down the aisle. Followed was Kari and her father, Floyd to the tune of the Star Wars Imperial March. Kari and Dan met just outside the gazebo steps.
The ceremony began with the following:
Dearly beloved we are gathered here in the presence of God and in the face of these witnesses to join together Kari and Daniel in holy matrimony.
If any man can show any just cause why you may not now be lawfully joined together let him now speak and forever hold his peace. I beseech you both that if you know of just cause or legal impediment why you should not be lawfully joined together you do confess it.
I require and charge you both to remember that love and loyalty alone will avail in the foundation of a happy and enduring home. No other human ties or vows are more sacred than the vows you now assume. If these vows are faithfully kept and together you do the will of God your lives will be full of joy and the home you establish will abide in peace.
I, Dan, take you, Kari, to be my wedded wife. To have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and health, if the Tigers win or lose and even on race day, to love and to cherish til death do us part I give you my word, my word is my bond, this is truly the best day of my life and you are absolutely the best thing to happen to me.
I, Kari, take you, Dan, to be my husband. I promise to love you and be your faithful partner, for better or worse, for richer for poorer, when the Tigers are winning and when they are losing, in sickness and in health, in Tiger-induced sickness.
I will be true to you as a drag racer's wife and a loyal fan when you win, continue to support you when you lose and encourage you to practice when you red light. I promise to learn to drive a stick shift and remain open minded about putting the bug to the quarter-mile test.
I will try to be understanding and share in your dreams and goals as we face life's challenges together.
But most importantly, I promise to make you the happiest man ever.
I give you this ring in token and pledge of our constant faith and abiding love.
For as much as Kari and Daniel have consented together in Holy matrimony and have witnessed the same before God and this company and declared the same by joining hands and giving and receiving rings. By the power vested in me as a Marriage Officer for the Island of Jamaica and a Minister of Religion, I now pronounce that you are husband and wife together.
Following the ceremony was the signing of the marriage license, with Dave Perrine and Dawn Berridge as witnesses.
At the close of the event, the sand ceremony took place. Mrs. Libby Perrine poured brown sand into the jar, and Mrs. Linda Stroschein followed with orange sand. Dawn Wehner read the following passage, "Today, Kari and Dan wish to participate in the sand ceremony. Similar to the unity candle, it indicates the joining of their lives, their hearts and their souls."
Kari and Dan began pouring sand.
"The flowing sand and blending of colors symbolizes the bringing together of two lives into one. The small amount of unblended sand at the bottom of the container shows even though Kari and Dan now function as one, they remain individuals."
Kari and Dan finished pouring their sand.
"Kari and Dan, just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual containers, our prayer for you today is that your lives together would be longer than the time it would take to separate the individual grains of sand so will your marriage be, united as one for all of your days."
The after-ceremony celebration began on the garden lawn with champagne and cake. The cake was cut, Jamaican style. Dan stabbed the knife into the top of the cake and Kari helped him slice the cake in a downward motion. Kari and Dan ate their chocolate cake in a traditional "bird pecking style." Dan placed half of the cake into his mouth, and Kari retrieved the remaining exposed half.
A speech was given by Mrs. Dawn Berridge and Mr. Dave Perrine while the remaining wedding music selected by Dan was played (See "Music" on the side bar for the song list).
The guests present were as follows:
Mr. Dave and Mrs. Libby Perrine, parents of the groom
