We wanted to hit up all the big warm beaches for our honeymoon and focus on traveling internationally to Europe and Asia after our wedding.
Our honeymoon will be for two weeks to the following places:
*Cape Cod (Martha's Vineyard)
*Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic
*Cabo San Lucas
*Back to San Diego, to our new place
Our story is all about serendipity. We shared a lot of coincidences, accidents, and things in common without realizing it. We are from the same town, Billerica; we both went to the same middle school and high school; we worked in the same plaza all throughout high school and college, and we shared a lot of the same friends (and still do). Our parents live only 15 minutes away from each other.
Though we knew each other, we didn't start dating until Keith's senior year in college (Cindy's junior year). After moving out of Massachusetts and starting a new life in California together, we got engaged during a romantic trip to Waikiki!
After talking on the phone everyday for hours, meeting up between classes, and IM conversations, Keith and I decided to go out for food. I was done with my classes but Keith skipped his class to join me at IHOP. Afterwards, we went back to my apartment to watch “Wedding Singer”. Once the movie ended, Keith turned to me and stared into my eyes. He then broke the silence with “Can I kiss you?” and I didn’t know what to say, but just continued to stare into his eyes in silence. Keith decided it was a “yes” and leaned in for our first kiss. Keith couldn’t leave my side since.
After we first met, the two of us were inseparable. If we weren't in class or sleeping, we were talking on the phone, having lunch or walking around Boston together. One day Cindy influenced Keith to skip one of his classes (something he NEVER did) so that they could grab some food at IHOP. This was our first time at IHOP and the start of one of our favorite traditions. We went back to Cindy's place and watched "The Wedding Singer". Here was Keith's chance...it had been weeks and weeks of no kissing and Keith was beginning to wonder if she had liked him at all. He asked her "Can I kiss you?" To which she replied "......." which of course means "Yes!!!". And from then on Keith was hooked.
We were on our vacation in Hawaii, a trip we had been delaying for months. Finally, we took off to paradise in April. The second day in Hawaii, April 17, 2007, Keith decided he couldn't wait anymore and had to propose. After dinner, I wanted to go back to the hotel to grab the camera (since I forgot it) but Keith wanted to cross the street to the beach. I wanted to capture the sunset on camera and groaned about not going back to get the camera, but agreed to cross the street to the beach for "just a minute".
Once we were on the beach, Keith, who was holding my hand, said "you know Babe, you're the woman of my dreams" and I cut him off by saying "you're just saying that because we're on vacation" and Keith continued "no, I mean it. You have everything I want. I want to spend the rest of my life with you". Keith started tearing up and started crying as he got down on one knee and asked "Cindy, will you marry me?" I was sitting on the bench, covered my mouth, in awe, and asked "are you serious?" and Keith asked "is that a yes?" and with a burst of happiness, I replied "yes, yes!"
The ring was all picked out (after about half a dozen trips and several "do-overs"), I had asked her father for her hand in marriage, the tickets were bought and the hotel was chosen. All Keith had to do now was pop the most important question of his life. "She's the one" he keeps thinking. "She has everything I could ever want. She's smart and gorgeous. She has a smile I dream about and a laugh that can win anyone over. She can cook and she speaks five languages. She is close with her family and she is ambitious. She'll say yes...she has to....I think."
There we were eating sushi right across the spot. I planned it so that we got there roughly 20 minutes before sunset. We sat down, ordered dinner and ate. Throughout dinner I knew she knew something was up. I couldn't focus on anything, I was giving her one-word answers. She maintained all of the conversation and I must have been white as a ghost. Most of the time I kept watching an old married couple sitting in the table right next to us. They must have been around 85 years old. "That will be us some day," I thought to myself. Just before I paid the check I got up to use the bathroom so that I could check on the ring, figure out which direction to hold the box as I opened it etc. I hoped she didn't see me rehearsing.
We left the restaurant and I felt sick. I asked "let's go to the beach." But she wanted to go back to the room to get her camera. I knew that the sunset wouldn't wait for us, and I couldn't wait until the following day, so I insisted that we would go back for it after we watched the sunset. I told her that she was the woman of my dreams, she's everything I want and that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. She laughed it off. I had her sit on a brick wall just behind a statue covered in leis and torches. I got down on one knee and managed to choke out "Will you marry me?" She was shocked. She thought I was joking. When she didn't answer after 10 seconds or so (that's a looooong time) I got nervous. I was crying by now. She looked at me and said "YES!" We embraced one another and watched the sun set over the beautiful Waikiki ocean horizon.
