Kit & Audrey - How they met

It is a great story to be told many times over!
Kit & Audrey - How they met

Audrey and Kit met with a simple email from Audrey which said, "Nice Smile." I had cancelled my account several months earlier (Match.com keeps your profile for database enlargement purposes), but I figured, OK, I will sign up and pay the $25 one more time to allow me to respond. It turned out the be the best $25 investment of my life! We talked via email only for a month and became very comfortable with each others' sense of humor. Anyone who knows Audrey can understand what I mean by her sense of humor! It is pretty funny that Audrey did not have a picture of herself on her Match profile, but it never really occured to me.

After going back and forth in email and maintaining a low key relationship, I received this email,

"WHAT DOES IT TAKE FOR A GIRL TO GET A DATE AROUND HERE?"

I finally asked her out and we agreed to meet at Guava Beach restaurant in Mission Beach, and it was only then I realized I didn't even know what she looked like. As you can imagine, when she sent me a picture of herself my jaw hit the floor as I gazed at her incredibly beautiful face. When we met face to face for the first time, I was even more dazzled at her real life beauty.

Audrey can take it from here...

I assumed that since he lived in Mission Beach and invited me to a pub that he was more of a flip flop and shorts casual type person. I left straight from work and was stressed because he told me that one of his pet peeves is when people are late and I am always late. I hurried out of work, drove to a parking lot near his house (for locals - the roller coaster parking lot) and changed out of my black slacks and into jeans so I would fit in better with the casual Mission Beach lifestyle. I finally make it to his place and he comes outside wearing a suit and tie - GEEZE - Who Would a thought?

We walked to the pub and had a nervous few minutes sitting at our little table. True to form, Audrey broke the nervousness by asking me to switch places. She was facing the door and announced to me she wanted to switch because of all of the people walking in and she is "easily distracted." I thought it was pretty funny (and today, the same sentiment still rings true that she is easily distracted. But that is another story!)

We each had a single beer (Bud Light, of course) and when the waitress came back to ask if we would like another, a little voice in my head spoke up. That voice reminded me of a conversation early in our email courtship where Audrey had stated she prefers to go out for a drink as opposed to dinner so she can bail out after 1 drink if the date was headed south. Therefore, I shut my mouth and let her answer, and our 2nd beer arrived a few minutes later!

It was only later on in our relationship and talking about our first date there was another test I had been subjected to without my knowledge. Apparently, Audrey thought our waitress was a pretty girl and was diligently watching me to see if I was going to "check her out." Audrey was pleasantly surprised to see my eyes never stopped looking at her, but who could blame me for that!

Our 2nd Date

THE SISTER
Our 2nd Date

When Kit and I met I was still living with my sister Fati and her husband Ramin. I had moved down to San Diego and planned on finding a place of my own within a few months time - - does 12 months count as a few?

On our 2nd date Kit came to pick me up from Fati & Ramin's beautiful house in Carmel Valley, San Diego. I invited Kit inside, introduced him to Fati and then went upstairs to finish getting ready.
I will let Kit jump in here...

At the time, Audrey was still living at her sisters house and Ariana was still a 7 month lump in Fati's tummy. As if purposely leading me into the "inquisition room", Audrey gave a quick introduction then bolted out of the room. I was then faced with the ever protective Fati and an onslought/barrage of questions about who I am, where I am from, do I have siblings, where my family currently lives, etc., basically determining my worthiness of spending another minute with her baby sister. Looking back, I don't think I even had enough time to answer the question before the next one was already being asked.

I remember thinking to myself, "you've got to be kidding, this must be some sort of sarcasm." So, assuming this, I began to go into sarcasm mode myself.

At one point, I was asked if I had any children, so thinking about my 3 cats, Thomas, Miki, and Malone, I said, "yes, 3." She then asked how old they were and I said, the twin boys were 9 and the youngest boy was 2.

At this point, Audrey came back into the room. Without hesitation, Fati made the announcement, "Did you know he has 3 kids?"

An optimistic Audrey said, "no, he's kidding." Fati then pressed on and said he just told me about them, "ask him!" Audrey then looked at me with an inquisitive and somewhat concerned hesitiation. I think this was the first time I ever saw Audrey visibly perspire!

I quickly realized this was a train-wreck in the making. I figured I better stop this now or trouble could pop up real fast, so I fessed up and admitted my 3 kids were actually cats.

Disaster averted!!

First Introduction To Audrey's Friends

The Gathering...

December of 2004 David & Michele Glasser hosted their annual Christmas Party in Los Angeles and Audrey invited me to come along with her. I assumed it would be a relatively small gathering of a few friends...

I was amazed to see Audrey and all of her friends from high school still have a tremendous bond to this day and get together as a group several times a year. I must admit, it was a pretty nice thought to see their friendships endure the test of time and never faded away as so many youthful relationships do. In fact, most of these relationships have grown stronger and deeper as the years go by. As a person who places a high value on friendships, it meant a lot to me to be a part of this.

This fantastic group of people welcomed me into their gathering and had no hesitation including me in conversation. So, to all who attended the party, thank you for your kindness, it will never be forgotten.

It wasn't until a couple of years later, I discovered my very comfortable and trademark 1980's style Dexter Penny Loafers were a topic of conversation and under fire for being "outdated," but I suppose that only inspires me to continue wearing them. In fact, I think they are coming back in-style, so I have a pretty good idea of what to get people for Christmas this year!
