Kit & Chris first met on the soccer field at 12 years old while on opposing teams. During the game, Kit had scored 4 times and his team was killing Chris'. Toward the end of the game while Kit was jumping in the air for the ball, Chris essentially tackled him as if it were a football game. They then got up and squared off grumbling at each other and have been best friends ever since. How about that for an ice-breaker!
When moving to high school, we were fortunate enough to have both made the varsity team and supported each other through the trials and tribulations of daily-double tryouts, victories and defeats, and celebrated 2 State Championships together. After our initial introduction on the field, I was very relieved to know I wasn't going to be the recipient of his tackles any more and it was going to be directed at the other teams!
Another interesting point of interest is Chris' wife Karen. When Kit's family moved back to Oregon in 1972, Kit's dad joined a medical clinic in downtown Portland and worked in the same office with Karen's father. Small world, eh?
