4. What is your least favorite wedding tradition?
"Anything that has to do with forced kissing on the part of the bride and the groom. I don't care if it is clinking of glasses or tooting of horns, I think it's a disgusting and repulsive custom that turns the loving couple into circus freaks. Other than that, I guess I don't really have an opinion, which, TRUST ME, is rare (see business card above)."
5. What is your "guilty pleasure" song?
"Well first, I don't think 'guilty' and 'pleasure' are two words that should be used in the same sentence. If it's fun, that's all you need to know, so I don't see any room for 'guilt' in the equation. Unless in whatever you're doing you wind up owing me money or getting me in trouble with the federal authorities. But if I did happen to have a guilty pleasure song, it would probably be the one by Neil Young that starts off with the lyrics, 'Sailing heart-ships on broken harbors...' whose title eludes me at the moment. And I do feel guilty about that."
6. Name a hidden talent.
"I can do a credible imitation of a Gila Monster."*
7. How did you meet the bride and groom?
"Well I met the bride in the delivery room at Henry Ford Hospital and she was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen in my life. The nurse finally had to pry her out of my fingers so that they could put her under the heat lamp to warm her up. I cried so hard that even the delivery doctor needed a handkerchief by the time she left the room. Kent I met on the 2004 Shoreline Bicycle Tour all along the northwest coast of Michigan, where I discovered his secret talent of flying kites in hurricane-like weather and his quick adaptation to Three Person Chess. I immediately found him to be a likable, even adorable person, a fact I could not reveal to my daughter (due to certain rebellious tendencies) until the plans for the wedding had gone past the point of no return. Kent, I love you, dude; if I had a son I'd want him to be just like you. Oh, wait, I DO have a son, and he IS YOU!"
8. What is a book you've been meaning to read and why?
"Read? I don't READ books, I write them! Or, at least I would if I had time. As many of you know, I have several Pulitzer Prize winning ideas, just waiting for the opportunity to be put on paper. With compelling, grandiose plots, fetching characters, complex intriguing story lines, that will probably alter the course of human literature. These works will make future generations look back on this period as the golden age of literature. In the mean time, I'm reading The Black Swan."
9. Who would play your part in "Kat & Kent's Wedding: The Movie!"?
"Well, if he were still alive, I think Clark Gable would be an excellent choice, or maybe a young Tom Cruise, although Brad Pitt does come to mind. Arnold Schwarzenegger is out since he quit lifting weights. And I couldn't entirely rule out Cate Blanchett after her performance playing Bob Dylan in I'm Not There, but in the end, it probably doesn't matter, because my part is so compelling, at least as I've written it, that any actor would rise to the challenge and turn it into an Oscar winning performance, since, after all, the Father of the Bride, IS the most important person at this or any ceremony."
*Editor's note: That is SO true!
