Getting Around Chicago

One of the best things about Chicago is its great public transit system. Here are some links to help you get around.

Google Maps

Google Maps has recently integrated public transportation into their directions. See the link to a great introduction video. We rely on this! #1 pick to help you get around!

Chicago Transit Authority (CTA)

Chicago Transit Authority is the organization that runs all of the L trains and buses. Be sure to cross-check your route from Google Maps with any scheduled maintenance/re-routing messages that are posted on their site. This site also has information about fare cards, fees, scheduling, etc that is very handy.

Metra

Metra is a passenger train that runs longer distances than CTA's L trains. If you're planning on staying farther from the city or if you'd like to see the suburbs during your stay, the Metra could be just what you're looking for. See their site for routes and schedules.

Parking

Parking is at a premium in the city. Whenever possible, park as far away from the city that you can and then take a train or bus into the city. 12-24 hours of parking downtown can range from about $22 - $45+. Included here is a site to help you find parking lots/garages. Plan accordingly!
