What we have done so far ......
At the one year countdown mark (October 27, 2006), we had accomplished a lot of things at that point - of which we confirmed and finalized the following deeds (date done) :
The Complete Wedding Party - Members and Alternates (June 2006)
The Florist (June 2006)
The Church for the Ceremony (August 2006)
The Hall (and essentials) for the Reception (September 2006)
The Photographer (September 2006)
The Tux Locale (October 2006)
The Cake Maker (October 2006)
The Videographer (October 2006)
The Location of The Honeymoon (psst. Jim knows, but Lori doesn't - shhhh (lol)) (October 26, 2006)
Pretty Good, eh? And all before the year-to-go mark was reached !
The only major things really left are the next-to-final/final meetings with the Vendors (Photographer, Videographer, Reception, Church, etc.), Lori to finalize her Gown specifications, me to work on the final product for the wedding documentation before printing begins next month (August 2007) as well as, lastly, obtaining the Marriage License.
Our advice to newly engaged couples - simply give yourself a fair bit of time between date of engagement and the date chosen as your wedding day (preferrably AT LEAST A YEAR). Also, THE SOONER YOU ARE ABLE TO COMPLETE MAJOR ITEMS FOR THE WEDDING, THE BETTER OFF YOU WILL BE - believe us, we were thankful that we were able to tackle and resolve major wedding plans early on and not wait until the last minute to do them. You would be surprised how many items seem to appear when the wedding day is almost upon you. In short, wise individuals tackle and complete the major components of the wedding preparation just after getting engaged and not have it wait until mere weeks before the wedding.
