This is our story. It's not the ending yet. We haven't even reach the halfway point yet. There has been ups, there has been downs. Glad to say, they've been mostly ups. Each chapter is more gripping than the last. We thank God for each other and know that it's going to be great. There's no one other than each other we'd rather have by our side in this love story of our lives.
Mark has three sisters and is the only son in his family. If you ask him whether that has resulted in his family pampering him endlessly, he'll answer with a resounding NO! :-) He comes from a very close knit family, where it has been instilled in him to respect his elders, to protect his sisters and that Saturday nights are for family dinners unless you have a very special excuse!
He got his B.Sc in IT from APIIT and subsequently got a job in Singapore where he worked for 4 years. After that he returned to KL to work in Shell where he met the love of his life. Another 4 years on, he and Jess are now based in London, ready to take the next step to a whole new chapter in their lives.
Jessie is the only daughter with three brothers in her similarly close knit family. Being the only girl growing up, she has always abit tom-boyish, but Mark is absolutely grateful that she blossomed into the caring and loving lady she now is.
She got her B.Sc in IT from APIIT as well (It's funny how they never met in college, but you can only keep two lovers meant for each other apart for so long) and got her first job in Shell. Her outgoing demeanor caught Mark's eye and he had fight off numerous potential suitors before they became an item. ;-)
Jessie - "Super fast swimmer! He caught my eye"
Mark - "She caught my eye even before I knew her name."
As most people know, Mark and Jessie met each other in the swimming competition years back during Shell's inter-department games. Of course they were in competing teams. The Shredder RED and the Java GREEN's team were arch rivals at all times. It was stressful yet fun, but it certainly wasn't a conducive place to be looking for love. They treated each other with mutual respect as competitors would and locked horns when came to event rules and regulations.
There was no official introduction but this was how their story began. 4 years on, time has shown that their love and understanding of each other, together with God's love and grace, can withstand any challenges that life brings their way.
Depending on who you ask, there are two different versions which you may hear. Obviously, Mark will "unintentionally" omit all the embarassing details during the nerve-wrecking build up to the proposal. He had planned a weekend break to Singapore where they will camp on the beaches of East Coast, and under the romantic stars with the cool evening breeze, he will pop the question.
Unfortunately, it was a cloudy humid night with little wind. Nevertheless, with the waves softly crashing in the background, Mark dropped down on one knee and proposed. With a joyful YES from Jessie (phew), he slipped the ring on to her finger and the rest is now history. On this night on 7th April 2006, Mark and Jessie were engaged.
The wedding date has been set to the 8th of March 2008. Months of planning and deliberation will culminate with the wedding reception dinner being held at the Sheraton Subang ballroom. All friends and family members will gather to celebrate the joyous occasion of Mark and Jessie starting the next chapter of their lives together.
Can't hardly wait.
