In lieu of wedding favours, rob and Christine have chosen to make a donation to the Kidney Foundation of Canada in memory of rob's Mum. Joanne Irene Page McLennan passed away on August 19, 2010 at the age of seventy. Any donations towards the Kidney Foundation at the time of our wedding are well-appreciated. It is one way that we would like to honour Joanne's memory at our celebration.
Christine's dress was purchased at The Brides' Project. Christine has lost several members of her family to cancer including her maternal grandmother Irene Bolbecher, her paternal grandfather Donald Francis McNair, her great-uncle Harry Lenkert, and her aunt Bonnie McNair.
The Brides' Project is a volunteer-run third party fundraiser that donates all their profits to cancer charities. Dresses are donated by brides and salons. They have a cap on the maximum price of each dress (no matter the original price tag) and there are hundreds of dresses and veils stuffed into a small downtown Toronto space.
Often the dresses are donated with 'stories' attached from the previous owner. Christine's dress didn't have one of those but she hopes to re-donate her dress this winter with a love note to the next bride.
The Brides' Project also referred Christine to Karyn Gingras at Liliput Hats for her custom veil. Karyn has done work with the Brides' Project for several years.
