Durango Colorado is located about a 6 hour drive southwest of Denver and 3 hours north of Albuquerque. It has a small airport with a limited number of daily flights. It is also accessible by Burro if you would like to take a month-long trip through the San Juan Mountains. If you travel early, a team of dogs could pull you there on a sled in February and you could camp out until June. Best seats in the house guaranteed!
Could we have picked a more difficult place to travel to? Well, knowing us, yes we probably could have... but we do realize how far away and remote Durango is in terms of travel within the US and we appreciate the time and effort you are all taking to be a part of our wedding day. So why did we pick this location?
Durango is a special place to both of us, and the venue is right where we met while attending Rob and Kristy Pfeiffer's wedding in June, 2010. Rob and Kristy are graciously sharing their special location with us, and we couldn't be more excited about it. Thanks guys!
Lauren's Durango roots go even deeper. While growing up, Lauren and her family traveled to Durango every summer to visit her grandparents (Bubby and Papa) who spent their summers at Vallecito Lake (just outside of Durango). Bubby and Papa were a big part of Lauren's life, and some of her earliest memories are of Papa teaching her to fish, the Durango/Silverton railroad, and spending time in the beautiful San Juan Mountain wilderness.
Bubby and Papa have since passed away, but they remain in Vallecito beneath the mountains and the lake that meant so much to them. Vallecito Lake is Lauren's favorite place to return to, and when we were looking for a venue to host our wedding, there could not have been a more beautiful and special place in Colorado.
