Aleck and Tara met sometime around 1996 when they both lived in the small San Diego suburb of Ramona, California and were neighbors. They met so long ago that neither one of them remembers meeting for the first time. At this time Tara had a crush on Aleck, but they were just friends and spent time together occasionally.

On August 3, 2006, a few weeks before their year and a half anniversary, Tara went to Disneyland with her parents and some family who were visiting from out of town. Aleck met them after work, since he knows that Disneyland is one of Tara’s favorite places. After dinner everyone wanted to go on one more ride so they all got in line. Aleck told Tara he had to go to the bathroom to get her away from the group and she asked if they could make a wish at the wishing well in front of the princess castle. They both made their wishes and when Tara opened her eyes Aleck was down on one knee and asked her to marry him – and she said yes!
