Nate started off by telling Lizz his friend got into a ski accident and therefore could not use a ski vacation at Red Mountain and insisted Lizz to take the time off work. Lizz was gullible and was always ready for a vacation so requested the time off from work and 3 weeks later, Lizz and Nate started the 6 hour drive from Seattle to Red Mountain, Canada. Lizz had no idea that this trip was going to change her life forever.
The sun was shining and it was a beautiful day at Red Mountain, Canada. Upon arrival Lizz went to get breakfast in the café while Nate got the lift tickets. The café was slow so Nate arrived with the lift tickets before breakfast was ready. Nate came over to Lizz and proceeded to place the lift ticket upside down on her pants zipper. He was fumbling and Lizz asked if he needed help-he replied “No no no-I got it I got it”. Lizz didn’t think anything of his funny behavior and proceeded to get breakfast. They enjoyed their meal and headed up to the top of the mountain. After getting off the chair at the top of the mountain on the third run, Nate turned to Lizz and said “I think they wrote something on your lift ticket”. Lizz was perplexed thinking why the hell someone would write something on my lift ticket-how weird. She looked down and read “Lizz will you marry me?” Lizz did a double take and read it over and over again, then looked at Nate as he slowly pulled the ring out of his ski pants. Nate got down on one knee if front of all the skiers passing by and asked Lizz to marry him. She of course said Yes! And from that moment on-she was speechless. They hugged and kissed for what seemed like eternity. Time felt like it stopped.
After 10 minutes they skied down the run with big smiles of their faces. Nate had told Lizz that they had to leave at noon to meet the snowcat operation at 3; 30. Noon was approaching quickly, so they skied a couple more runs and headed back to the car. When Lizz arrived back at the car, Nate said “I have something to tell you. We are not going cat skiing” and Lizz replied” We’re not? ”. Nate replied “No but I rented a helicopter and we are getting married. That is the real reason why we are leaving early-to get the marriage license before we head up in the helicopter”. Lizz froze. Overwhelmed with happiness and shock, she started to feel dizzy and sat down in the car speechless.
They headed to Trail BC to apply for the marriage license. Once that was obtained it was off to Neilson to deliver the papers to the marriage commissioner who would perform the ceremony. At this point Lizz did not know when or where she was going to get married but didn’t ask as she wanted it all to be a big surprise.
Once the papers were dropped off, it was off to Rossland BC to meet the helicopter. They checked in with Snowwater Heli Skiing and were off to the helicopter landing pad a short drive from their office. Lizz had no idea that the helicopter was flying them to a secluded lodge high in the snowy mountains. Once there Lizz and Nate were shown to the most romantic lodge they had ever seen. Heated slate floors, vaulted ceilings, glass tiled shower, cozy down beds, 2 cozy lofts and most importantly breathtaking views of the Vallahara mountain range. After noshing on the chocolate covered strawberries and having a glass of champagne, they headed to the main lodge, where the views were even more amazing -it was time for an exquisite 4 course dinner with all of the guests! After dinner it was off to bed to get ready for what was going to be the biggest day of their lives.
