I knew...I just knew
Nick has been there through MY thick and thin and has always been a "brother" figure to me while I was maturing into my young adult life. I even called him "Kuya", which is a sign of respect in the Filipino culture. He is my example of how I want to be in life.
Nick and I weren't really talking and hanging out that much through the summer of '07 (probably because we were busy with work) and I was doing my own thing. But for some reason near the end of the summer, Nick was starting to talk to me again and we were communicating more at church and hanging out more. It was happening so often that I began looking forward to talking to him and seeing him. And I still remember the day when we went out on our lunch break and went to TGIFRidays and he got all serious on me and asked me the most gut wrenching question. (I was more nervous when he asked me this than when he proposed!) He asked me, "Sarah? Is it really a far fetched idea of you and me ever being together?" I looked up at him and was in total shock. Let me give you some history behind this question. At our church, people would see Nick always hanging around my family, particularly me and my brother. So people would assume and always ask us, "Sarah are you and Nick an item?" And I would always reply as dramatic as possible, "OH MY! NO WAY! Nick is like a brother" And Nick would say the same when asked about us. Now back to the question he asked me. I KNEW exactly where he was going with the question. I told him that the idea of us being together wasn't impossible. Then HE ASKED, "then why is it so disgusting to you?" Again, I was shocked. I told him that it wasn't disgusting, and he went further to explain that he didn't understand why I sounded so disgusted when people presented the idea to us. And that's when I knew he like me. ^_^ But of course that wasn't a problem for me, because I knew I was already falling for him.
From there, Nick took all the necessary steps and went to my father and talked to him about us being official. My dad of course said YES, because my family loves Nick and trusts him with my life.
Our friendship has grown into something much more deep, and I'm glad that I'm marrying my best friend.
